Marvel Legends Toys R Us Exclusive All New X-Men Box Set Review

Marvel Legends Toys R Us Exclusive All New X-Men Box Set 01

Hasbro released a new Toys “R” Us exclusive Marvel Legends All New X-Men Box Set that was first announced back in January 2014. Following the announced, a pre-order went up at Toys “R” Us.com for $89.99, then as the product sold through, Toys “R” Us decided to price gauge with $119.99 then $139.99. As fans quickly caught on to this and anger was directed at Toys “R” Us for being greedy, the price did go back down to $89.99.

This box set consist of Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Iceman and Angel all in their original X-Men costumes and based on the All New X-Men comic book series by Marvel Comics.

Availability: February 2014

Sculpt & Paint:

Cyclops – First off, there is paint QC problems on both sides of his ribs. The factory did not properly touch this up and it leaves yellow scuff marks on the blue sides. On the front of his yellow deco there is some orange washed in, but not at the shorts, hips, hands or feet. On the back all the yellow matches up. He has a newly sculpted head, and the rest are all pre-existing Marvel Legends parts from various figures.

Angel – Same paint issues as Cyclops. He has a newly tooled head and wing attachment that connects by a peg onto his back. The wings are made of runner and are not articulated as previous Angel figures have been for Marvel Legends. The wings fall off rather easily as the peg does not. Hasbro did not give the wings ball joints at the shoulder blades as they should have done and these wings are just too small. Would they do this if he was sold as a single carded figure? We hope not….

Beast – This is his debut in human form in the Marvel Legends line. He has the same paint problems as Cyclops and Angel and were given a newly tooled head, hands and feet. This is probably the best figure offered in this set.

Iceman – He was given a newly tooled head, reused body, and a very nice and detailed translucent white paint job. The quality on the paint is what we should expect to see these days, except that the eyes are simply painted white.

Marvel Girl – Fans have waited over a decade for a Jean Grey Marvel Legends action figure and Hasbro delivered 90’s Jean Grey, and now are offering her in this classic costume from the new comic book series. She has the same paint problems listed above except that the there are no scuff yellow marks on the ribs. Her leg ball joints don’t allow her legs to come closer together and this the legs too far spread out.

Articulation:

Standard for Marvel Legends.

Accessories:

None.

Overall:

Sorry Hasbro. Usually we always give positive reviews here, but this set is a disappointment for us.

Not recommended as a set. We do recommended Beast and Iceman though.

This review is in dedication to our friend Chris, a fellow X-Men fan and who would have turned 31 today.
