Darth Plagueis was on the fans most wanted list for years and in 2013, Hasbro finally released him. While only being mentioned as Darth Sidious’s master in Star Wars Episode III and was betrayed and killed by him, he also has been shown in Star Wars comics, and has a very large fan base behind him. Now that Hasbro had gotten to him after years of waiting, fans know that finding Darth Plagueis at retail can be a bit of a challenge as he is only packed as 1 per case and the only real option for getting him is Amazon.com or through a case assortment.
Availability: November 2013 – Still found in retailers like K-Mart, Target and Wal-Mart as of April 2014
Sculpt & Paint:
Darth Plagueis uses an all new sculpt and includes a soft-goods cloak, breathing mask, removable vest, and staff/lightsaber. His head sculpt is oval shaped and his nose of flat like other members of the Muun species. The breathing mask is very difficult to slip on over his head and be lowered to his mouth, and we feel that the only safe way to put it on is to pop his head off and slip it on from the bottom.
His arms, torso and legs are long and thin and he does not have the ab crunch or wrist joint articulation. Both are needed to make him display in more ways and what Hasbro did limits his poseability. They should not have taken this route on a fan-demanded character and bit the bullet on this one and given him the ab crunch and a wrist joint.
The overall sculpt is simply fantastic and truly eye catching. Despite some improvements needed, this is one excellent figure.
Articulation:
Ball jointed head, ball jointed shoulders, ball jointed elbows, swivel wrists, swivel hips, ball jointed knees, and ball jointed ankles.
Accessories:
Soft-goods cloak, breathing mask, removable vest, and staff/lightsaber
Overall:
Hasbro has done an incredible job here and we are truly happy with the final product. If you can locate one, get it.
