We reported that the The Walking Dead Silicone Tray is currently being offered for 60% off at Toys “R” Us and you can get it for $3.19 if you’re lucky. Diamond Select Toys is known of their silicone ice trays from a variety of licenses including The Walking Dead, Marvel, and Star Trek. Purchasing this was a spur of the moment decision since it was on sale, and normally we don’t review any thing other than action figures. However, when we took a closer look at this ice tray and tested it for ourselves, we began to appreciate these a little more.
The silicone ice tray is smaller in person than online. It’s rubber so bending it to get the ice cubes out is no trouble. Each tray is highly detailed and gives the ice a rough feel in the end.
There are a variety of things you can make with this. Ice cubes, chocolate and Jell-O. We recommend red Jell-O for those die-hard Walking Dead fans.
Making Ice:
Step 1: Clean your tray. We tested it to make sure it is dishwasher safe and were happy with the results. The material holds up in the hot water and came out like new.
Step 2: Pour water into the tray and try not to over pour. The lip on the ends are low and any over flowed water can pour onto the floor when being carried to the freezer. It also leaves extra ice around the pieces as you can see for yourself in our gallery.
Step 3: Freeze for an hour or less.
Step 4: Carefully remove the ice and enjoy!
Making Jell-O:
Follow the instructions on the package and instead of a large bowl, pour small amounts into each gap in the tray. Refrigerate afterwards. While we did not try this [yet], you shouldn’t run into any problems.
Making Chocolate:
We have not tried this yet. But you can just google it to see how it’s done.
Overall:
This is an excellent tray with some great attention to detail. The ice is fun for parties and makes a great conversation piece.
