Hasbro’s new Transformers Age Of Extinction Grimlock action figure came in two sizes that collectors are definitely going to want to check out. The Leader Class Grimlock features chrome and a larger club, while the Voyager Class Grimlock is painted copper, black and grey and has a smaller club.
We want to start off by talking about how the instructions of both of these are fairly difficult to read. All of the instructions we’ve seen so far in this line only offer one way to transform the figure and do not include the reverse order as previous Transformers figures had. Thankfully, we have several people here with 30 years experience with transformers and used their own knowledge to get it in both modes. With instructions difficult to make read, these are not kid-friendly figures.
Leader Class Grimlock is available for $44.99 and Voyager Class Grimlock is available for $24.99.
Availability: May 2014
Leader Class Grimlock is chrome painted and is taller than the voyager class Grimlock figure. The robot mode is very solid and the joints click when you move the arms and legs. The shield and large club are a nice addition, but we are missing the energon sword as this is Grimlock’s iconic weapon. For the price of $44.99, it would probably have been better to give him a sword rather than a club.
Beast Mode – This form is unique in regards to the triangular shape of the body when a T-rex is more round. Transformers are meant to blend into their surroundings in beast/automobile mode, and while yes, a T-Rex will stand out more compared to a car on Earth. We are simply talking about the fact that the body is triangular instead of round as it should be. The shield and club are also difficult to read on the instructions as to where they are placed and how to place them.
Voyager Class Grimlock is painted in copper, black, and grey and has a solid robot and beast mode. He has one club accessory that has a handle attached to it and it’s meant to be help by one hand at a time.
Beast Mode – The beast mode is excellent and represents the character much better than the Leader Class figure. The club attaches to the tail to create a much longer tail. The beast mode is very solid and the jaw is controlled by pressing the button on the left side of the neck.
Overall:
Both figures are very nice Grimlock figures, but as far as which one to buy we can only say that the robot mode to the Leader Class is better, and the beast mode to the Voyager Class looks more like Grimlock. So whichever form you plan on displaying him in, keep that in mind.
Recommended.
