The Official Transformers Collectors’ Club Figure Subscription Service 2.0 have shipped out Barricade and Frenzy to subscribers, and they should have stock available at the club official store in the near future. Barricade is a repaint from the Transformers Prime Prowl figure. This line is targeted to the kids and we have stated before in our FSS 1.0 reviews, that the kids line has no place in adult targeted lines especially with higher than average prices. The FSS line should only use Transformers Classics molds from 2006-current, and any other molds not used in kid-only targeted lines. Apologies to Hasbro and the TFCC, but we feel that the majority of the people that buy the FSS are not kids, and we feel that the animated Prime design does not fit in here.
Barricade was first introduced in 1990 as part of the Transformers G1 line, and most recently used again in the Transformers 2007 movie line. The writing above the back tire “To Punish and Enslave” was used on the 2007 toy, and used again on this release making a nice homage to the movie toy.
Availability: June 2014
Sculpt & Paint:
Barricade uses the same mold as Transformers Prime Prowl mold. In vehicle mode, he can store the missile launcher or saw on top, or on the sides. In robot mode, he can hold the saw and the missile launcher. The mold is decent, but we’re still not thrilled with the idea of Transformers Prime toys making their way into an adult and collector-aimed toy line. He is painted in black and purple, with some silver. He has the words To Punish and Enslave above the back tires, which is an homage to the 2007 movie Barricade toy.
Frenzy can transform from saw to a mini-con sized Transformers, and is only painted in grey.
The instructions are a little difficult to make out at times and do not show Frenzy at all.
Articulation:
Barricade –
Ball-jointed head, ball-jointed shoulders, hinged elbows, swivel waist, ball-jointed hips, hinged knees.
Frenzy –
hinged shoulders, hinged hips, swivel knees.
Accessories:
Missile Launcher and missile, Frenzy companion, bio card, instructions.
Overall:
Barricade has an excellent paint scheme and we really like the 2007 movie homage, but as far the mold itself and the choice to use Transformers Prime, this is not the best Barricade figure Hasbro could have given fans (why couldn’t they reuse Generations Classics Prowl figure mold?).
Somewhat Recommended.
