Masters Of The Universe Mini-Masters Stratos Vs. Scareglow Review

Masters Of The Universe Minis Stratos vs. Scareglow 01

Mattel’s third mini-masters set includes Stratos, Scareglow, and the upper left column to Castle Grayskull. This piece can connect the two previous pieces together so you can get an idea of what the Castle will look like combined. We can confirm now that the height of this mini-castle is 6-3/16″ and somewhere around 8-3/4″ wide.

Previous releases of the mini-masters were Battle Armor He-Man vs. Battle Armor Skeletor, and Moss Man vs. Merman (not including the SDCC 2013 mini-masters exclusive). While both sets were great, this set includes Scareglow, a character not released from Mattel since 2009 in Classics, and just like the larger Classics figure, he can also glow-in-the-dark. This makes Scareglow our favorite release thus far.

Toyguru confirmed to a question on the Mattycollector forums recently there there will be a big surprised at San Diego Comic-Con 2014 regarding this line, when asked about a subscription to save on shipping. If that is the case, things are looking good for the continuation of this line.

Availability: June 2014

Sculpt & Paint:

Stratos features some new tooling including his head, wings, jetpack, chest harness, and retooled chest, arms and legs indicating hair. Included is the Staff of Avion. While the 2009 Classics figure failed to include a weapon at first (the Staff of Avion and the Staff from the mini-comics were released this past year in Classics – See MOTUC Icer and Goat Man), the mini-masters Stratos comes with this much needed accessory.

He is painted in grey, blue, and red, with a gold staff and a tan mouth and nose.

Scareglow features a newly tooled head, cape, axe, feet, retooled forearms, and made so he can glow-in-the-dark just like the 6″ Classics figure. There is a crack on his skull, which is a very nice touch.

He is painted white with black stripes, a purple cape and boots, and a green and white axe.

The Mini-Masters Castle Grayskull is coming along nicely. What some of you might not know is that it can be snapped apart with ease and you probably don’t have to worry about it breaking.

Articulation:

Standard for Mini-Masters.

Accessories:

Staff of Avion, Axe.

Overall:

This is a great set from Mattel and we hope to see the line continue into 2015 and beyond. Possibly releasing Snake Mountain, Fright Zone and other playsets, vehicles, and beasts that Classics failed to include (so far).

Highly Recommended.
