Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Slash Figure Review

Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Slash Figure Review

Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Slash 01

In the Nickelodeon series, Slash was Raphael’s pet turtle named Spike that was accidentally mutated by mutagen. At first, Slash teamed up with Raphael to fight crime, but betrayed him by beating up his brothers. After being captured by the Kraang and being freed along with other villains from the series like Snakeweed and Spider-Bytez, Spike jointed forces with Newtralizer to steal from the Kraang to create teleportation devices. After receiving intel from a Kraang computer, they plot to capture the Kraang’s newest weapon and use it against them. When Newtralizer attempts to use this weapon on the turtles, Slash steps up and defends them. With the help of Slash, the weapon is damaged and Newtralizer escapes. It’s interesting that Slash is listed as a hero on the back of the packaging, and he was a villain in the classic series and started out as a villain in this new show.

Playmates Toys needs to reconsider how they pack the new case assortments as Rahzar, Slash, Newtralizer, and Splinter in Dojo Gear are packed 1 per case of 24. We’ve expressed our concerns in the past about some of these case ratio’s, and now we are seeing the four main Turtles characters flooding the pegs while most if not all villains are sold out. It’s a safe bet that everyone already has the four main Turtles, plus figures from older waves. It is doubtful at this point that parents will continue to buy the older figures in the case assortments that collectors already have, and the last thing we want for this line is to over flow at retail.

What needs to be done and our advice to Playmates Toys, is to pack case ratio’s such as 3x Rahzar, 2x Slash, 2x Newtralizer, and 2x Splinter in Dojo Gear while leaving 3 spots for older figures such as Kraang, Spider Bytez, and Casey Jones. A more interesting case ratio will appeal to your shoppers and make it easier for them to buy the new figures. Again, despite the fact that retailers want the four Turtles in each new case ratio, we believe at some point they will no longer sell as people already have them. We ask that you try a case ratio such as the one we suggested as a test run.

Sculpt & Paint:

Slash features an all new sculpt and has rough skin giving him texture. The figure is scaled down to fit the basic sized figure that retailers want for this line, instead of having a larger and bulkier figure as he is seen on the show. His chest is made of rubber and the shell is hard plastic with a belt wrapping around his body. The shell is highly detailed with grooves, texture, and lumps as seen on the show.

There are also bandages wrapped around his wrists, legs and feet. His mace accessory fits loose in his hands, but they are sculpted to specifically hold the mace. His legs only have articulation at the hips and the only way to get him to stand is to put the right leg out in front with the left leg hanging back.

He is painted to match the vintage figure (in the gallery below this is the 2009 reissue Slash figure from the 20th Anniversary line) with blue skin, purple, black and a yellowish green shell.

Articulation:

Swivel head, hinged-swivel shoulders, hinged-swivel biceps, hinged-swivel hips.

Accessories:

Mace.

Overall:

Slash is an excellent figure and we like how he pays homage to the original character. While we do wish he was made bigger to match the television series, Playmates Toys did an excellent job sculpting and painting him.

Highly Recommended.
