It’s an all-new Ask DST with Diamond Select Toys President DSTChuck, and this one is all about Marvel! Mostly, it’s about the Marvel Select line although there are a few questions about gelatin molds and Minimates mixed in. I’m a huge marvel fan and have been collecting the Marvel Select line for years. I love all the figures that have come out but have to say that I absolutely love the Villains line. Has there been any discussion on making any more figures from the Fantastic Four? I also would love to see a Mysterio figure. With the attention to detail that goes into your figures I’m sure a Mysterio figure would be badass. Thanks!!
DSTChuck: Right now we are not able to make characters from the FF, but as soon as that changes we will consider them.

I was wondering if you guys had any plans on making Marvel Select versions of Gladiator, Apocalypse, Cable, Bishop, or Sandman. Apocalypse is a fan favorite of mine and I know you guys would make him big and bulky. (Classic version of course) Anyway, thanks for taking the time to respond to or consider doing any of these figures (especially Apocalypse). And thanks for putting out such detailed and powerful looking figures. Thanks guys!

Now that Mystique from DOFP is coming. Is there any way to reissue the Wolverine from “The Wolverine”? He doesn’t change much from his appearance in the 70′s so it would be awesome for those of us who could get him. Like me 🙁
DSTChuck: Sorry, we have had to cancel the DOFP Mystique figure. We are not able to re-issue figures from past movies.

Just throwing a thought out there, how about a Marvel Select Alpha Flight Sasquatch? The large scale figure sculptures are awesome and I think Sasquatch would fit right in. Best regards.

A Marvel Select Iceman would be a cool figure, that I hope you guys will get to eventually, (hopefully sooner rather than later). I have a few requests regarding the style/look of the figure when and if it is made…If you do make Iceman could you please make him out of clear plastic and give him an original sculpt? I have various Iceman figures and not one of them made in the past 15 years or so actually look like ice, except for several minimates… Most of them are just made of an opaque or colored plastic & are just reused spider-man or silver surfer sculpts with a new head. And could you please make a non-bald Iceman? The character has had spiky Ice-hair for a long time now. Anyhoo, Thanks for making such cool figures!
DSTChuck: Since Iceman is not in the plans at this time, it’s too soon for me to comment on the direction we might take.

Hey, Marvel Select question. Do you guys have the ability to make a ROM the space knight? Like as far as rights go? If so, would you please consider it? I think you are the only company left that we know of that makes marvel figures that might be able to. Thanks.
DSTChuck: Funny, at one point we did ask Marvel about Rom, but they said they could not grant us the rights to make a figure.

Any other Spidey villains besides Carnage on tap soon? I hope that Sandman is coming soon. I wish you guys would have been able to pull off a classic Electro for Disney like you did with Lizard. Also, Iron Man villains. Where are they? C’mon.
DSTChuck: We’re always looking to the Spidey family for character ideas. And a Classic Electro is available right now at the Disney Store.

Why don’t you guys re-launch the figure of Mephisto and of Gwen Stacy if they did Jane Foster? Also, I have a few recommendations: Ms Marvel, Omega Red, Invisible Woman, Mr. Fantastic, Jubilee, Dormamu, Amora the enchantress, Mr. Sinister, Songbird and Baron Mordo.
DSTChuck: We have never made a Mysterio or Gwen Stacy. We often dicuss with sales what figures might work for a re-run, but we also have to be able to find the tooling at our factory, as well as be able to produce it at a cost that lines up with the line’s current SRP.

DSTChuck: No problem – thanks for asking them. I think the idea of variants in Marvel Select going forward is less and less likely.

DSTChuck: We’re always happy to make another Spidey figure, but it’s not in our plans right now.

Hi, couple quick things –
1. Do you know how big the avengers age of ultron minimates lineup is going to be?
2. Are there plans for a minimate set for the FF reboot?
3. How do you feel about the explosion of comic book movies coming after 2017 general and especially Marvel based movies? If FOX, Sony, and Marvel all stick with their plans there should be 5 movie properties a year. Great time to be a fan, but how will this affect the MM and Select lines?
4. Any thoughts on an Infinity Stone ice cube tray? That just seems like it would be cool
5. I don’t know if there has been a precedent for this but seeing how Thanos is THE big bad for the MCU, instead of a MM two pack is it likely he could be packaged alone with just a bunch of accessories. (His floating throne, the tessaract, orb, and all the other stones, maybe different colored energy blasts.) I know this is a LONG way off but just seeing him in GOTG he felt epic.
6. Whose your favorite Guardian from the movie?

1) Clayton, we’re not 100% sure but it might carry over to a second series or a box set.
2) No plans at this time, sorry.
3) Honestly, I can’t get my head around what DST will be doing in 2015 yet, so I can’t speak on 2017, but I know things change as times passes so we’ll see.
4) I don’t think we’ve thought of that yet, but the bottle opener does sell very well.
5) We have a new Thanos Minimate in the Infinity Box Set, but we’ll see what happens with him next.
6)Hmm… Maybe Star Lord or Drax, hard to say. GREAT movie. Rocket was cool, too…

Will you be making a Marvel Select figure of The Winter Soldier from Captain America: The Winter Soldier? My S.H.I.E.L.D. Strike Cap and Falcon are looking to fight him. Would be a shame if you didn’t make one for the film’s title character.
DSTChuck: No, sorry, not from that movie. We made the comic one, which is pretty similar, but he is in future movies, so you never know. Unfortunately we’re never going to be able to make a full spread from a movie, so tough choices have to be made and not everyone is going to be happy.

Greetings! While in TRU looking for this year’s Universal Monsters set, I started wondering why we never see TRU exclusive versions of the Marvel figures (comic or movie)? Thanks, and keep up the great work!
DSTChuck: We are not allowed to sell our Marvel Select line into TRU because of Hasbro. They kind of have a big deal with Marvel for figures.

Hi. I am wondering why the Mystique with Oval Office figure was cancelled? Also, I am throwing in my obligatory request for you guys to make a Psylocke and Blade figure. Great job on the Unmasked ASP 2 figure. Also, with Netflix making their original Marvel series, would we see any of the Defenders, like Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist, around the time these series make the airwaves?
DSTChuck: We had to cancel the figure as a result of Jennifer Lawrence’s wishes. For sure, we have looked into the Netflix stuff, and we’re anxious to see how it does and how the characters look.

Will you ever make a Black Widow movie version? Love all the accessories, like alternate head and hands; we will see more of that in the future? (i think that the unmasked variants should come of course with the regular masked head plus a “empty mask or helmet” accessory, so the character could hold it in their hand) I can`t thank you enough for the Silver Surfer figure, you have any plans for Black Panther, Dr Strange or Namor? Also, any news about more Mutants? I saw a picture of the Cable figure in your SDCC booth and I was speechless, he always was another figure from my wish list and you totally nailed it again. Have you ever considered making a Jim Lee 90´s Cyclops costume? Thanks!
DSTChuck: We never say never at DST. I do think with the movie stuff it can be VERY difficult to get reference for bases and such, since DST is pretty much the only company that needs stuff like that. So we might go more to the accessories, to try and get the figures done sooner. Glad you like the Cable, we really think Phil knocked that one out of the park.

Hello DST! I’m loving your Marvel Select Venom, Anti-Venom, Agent Venom, and Black Suit Spider-Man figures to no end, and I’m looking forward to that sweet MS Carnage previewed at SDCC. I was wondering if there are any plans to rerelease the MS Ultimate Venom and Ultimate Carnage figures in the near future? I missed my chance at grabbing them when they came out, and I don’t want to submit to the ridiculous asking prices of online scalpers. I must fill out my MS symbiote figure collection!
DSTChuck: Hi, Orion are you friend with Lee? As we’ve said, we consult with sales all the time to help decide which figures we should re-release,and only a few have been ruled out due to cost and such.

Hello DST, My question is since cancelling the DOFP mystique because of various reasons why not put out a comic accurate 616 mystique instead? The new female body that you guys were so proud of can still get out there to break up the mostly male selections so far. I know you guys are spider-man fans but for those of us who are old school Fantastic four, Defenders and, Avengers fans can we get some love too?
DSTChuck: Yes, I do think there is a chance we will release the figure as a comic figure down the road, but we wanted some distance from the movie so folks would not think we tried to do a movie likeness and failed, and of course we’d want to look at a new base as well.

Hello again thanks for answering my last question. Do you think you could ever do a dynamic base with a figure so it adds more chance of a better pose to have your figure in? No figures come to mind but a cool idea none-the-less . Do you also think you could a 616 Doc Ock? Maybe Ends of the Earth story arch, which would be a good addition to my collection considering that the ultimate one is hard to come by.
DSTChuck: I’d like to think we do cool bases already, but I think I know what you mean – something like the Iron Man bases we have done? Yes, I think that would be possible on a comic figure. When we are not sure, we try and make the base as multipurpose as possible so they can be used for other figures, as well, if a collector wants. Not sure about another Doc Ock, and which version we would do if we did – we’ll have to see.

Hey DSTChuck, I recently picked up the Electro/Spider-Man box set, and it lead me to a few questions.
1) Considering the packaging is nearly the same size as a typical Marvel Select, can we look forward to seeing more hero v. villain box sets, assuming the current box set is successful?
2) If the current box set is successful, will you guys be looking to get away from the older two-packs like Cloak & Dagger, Doc Ock & Spider-Man and some of the articulated figures w/ the non-articulated figures?
3) Again, if the current box set is successful, could we get a Classic Thor vs. Classic Loki, or Iron Man vs. Mandarin.
Can’t wait to see what’s to come! P.S. I’m 10 away from the whole line!

1) I think the two-packs or multi-packs would have to be restricted to just Disney, but you never know. It is something we’ve thought about, but not sure how practical it is with our license.
2) No, I do not think so. I think we like when we can give a value like that for the price of one figure.
3) If that is something Disney is interested in, absolutely!
