Mattel’s DC Total Heroes line is coming to a close with the second to last figure of the Fans Choice Batman Beyond figure. Toyguru revealed that sales were too low to continue the Ultra line, but the regular retail version of these characters will continue. While this new line doesn’t have the greatest sculpts compared to the previous style DC figures wrapping up this year, some of the Ultra versions of these figures with additional heads, hands, weapons and accessories make it worth purchasing.
Batman Beyond is no exception here. For the first time, fans can buy a 6″ Batman Beyond figure with wings, a feature that was not available in the DC Universe Classics release. If there’s any Total Heroes figure you should buy, it’s this Terry McGinnis Batman Beyond figure.
Availability: September 2014
Sculpt & Paint:
Batman Beyond uses the same buck we’ve seen in the Total Heroes line, as well as three newly tooled heads, wings, belt, forearms, batarangs, a mask for Terry to hold, Future Justice League member Micron (as seen in Justice League Unlimited). Micron is a PVC figure that is 2″ tall and painted in his red and blue custom with the logo on his chest.
There is a lot to love about this figure, including the animated look head sculpts that work well with the hit animated series, the wings, the head sculpts, and the nicely sculpted batarangs. Terry Mcginnis includes a mask he can hold in his hand and is also a nice touch.
The paint apps around Terry Mcginnis and old man Bruce Wayne eyes are sloppy as are the paint apps for the red around the batarangs, and the bat symbol has some black showing through but has a nice crisp line. Batman Beyond is painted in a black costume, with a silver belt, black mask with white around the eyes and mouth, red wings, and a red belt buckle.
Articulation:
Standard for Total Heroes.
Accessories:
Batman Beyond head, Terry McGinnis head, old man Bruce Wayne head, 4 Batarangs, removable wings, Micron 2″ mini figure, chop hands, closed fisted hands, and open hands.
Overall:
Batman Beyond is an excellent figure and we just cannot get enough of this character. We are thankful he won the fans choice vote, and that Mattel was able to get to a Batman Beyond with wings before the end of the 6″ DC figure line. The included Mircon figure is a nice touch and we would have loved to see the future Justice League characters (Future Static Shock, Warhawk, etc.) made through Total Heroes Ultra as it looks great compared to the animated series appearances.
Highly Recommended.
