The DC Universe Classics Super Powers line is Mattel’s final wrap up of this style of DC figures and was their big announcement at New York ToyFair 2014 this past February. This Super Powers line consists of 6 carded action figures each coming with a piece to build Super Powers Kalbak. The Kalibak pieces are packed separately inside the white mailer boxes so you don’t have to open this beautiful vintage 1980’s Kenner style card back.
The first wave shipped in September was Super Powers Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, and Super Powers Gold Superman, Mister Mxyzptlk, and The Ridder will be coming in October. What is interesting here is that while Super Powers Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman made it into Kenner’s Super Powers line 30 years ago, Gold Superman, Mister Mxyzptlk, and The Ridder were not released properly in that line.
Availability: September 2014
Sculpt & Paint:
Mattel reused the previous molds of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman and repainted them in their Super Powers colors.
Wonder Woman is repainted with a yellow, red, and light blue shorts. The original figure had gold painted on his headband, chest, and shorts, and included accessories which this figure does not have.
Superman is painted in a light blue costume as opposed to the darker blue as compared to the previous release. His skin tone is also more tan and shinny, and he is missing the “S” on his cape.
Batman is painted in a light grey and light blue outfit to match his classic Super Powers colors, which came out very nicely.
Standard for DC Universe Classics.
Each figure includes a piece to build Kalibak.
Wonder Woman – Left Arm
Batman – Right Arm
Superman – Right Leg
Super Powers was the first DC line to have come out 30 years ago and there is a lot to love about these repaints. It is a shame they do not come with accessories considering the inflated $30 price point, but at least they come in a very nice style card and a Kalibal build-a-figure piece.
