Hasbro revealed Chewbacca at this years New York Toy Fair 2014 and even went so far as to make The Black Series 6″ reveals in shadow boxes this year creating more of a hype. The 6″ line has had its ups and downs this past year but for the most part they’ve released some pretty great figures so far. Chewbacca is an interesting release as this character was not even released in The Vintage Collection 3-3/4.” That sounds unusual but it’s true! While we wait for Hasbro to create a great Chewbacca figure in the 3-3/4″ line, the 6″ figure has great quality to it, but most importantly we are disappointed over the bowcaster!

Sculpt & Paint:
Chewbacca stands at 7-3/4″ and is sculpted fur giving his body texture and includes a bandolier, and his bowcaster. The hanging fur was sculpted in three layers over his torso, and two layers on his arms and legs. The hanging fur on his arms and legs block some of the full range of motion as does the hanging fur connected to the head piece.
The head sculpt is accurate to the character and for the most part is very well done. What may bother some fans is that he was sculpted in an open mouth, which doesn’t personally both us. An idea would have been an articulated jaw piece, but that would have raised Hasbro’s price or they would have had to limit the articulation on the figure in another way.
The bowcaster is a huge disappointment for us as it is made of 3 pieces, and the front of the bowcaster has a pin that connects the crossbow piece to it, which in this case it falls off within seconds (we were able to take a few pictures of it attached). On other samples it may fall off if you touch it, this one it just falls off by itself. This makes us wonder why Hasbro made the bowcaster into 3 pieces, and not just 1? Like the 3-3/4″ figure, it’s meant to be 1 piece.

Overall:
Chewbacca is an excellent figure and despite the bowcaster issue, he is worth picking up.
