Transformers Generations 30th Anniversary Sky-Byte Review

Transformers Generations 30th Anniversary Sky-Byte 01

Hasbro’s Transformers Generations 30th Anniversary Sky-Byte action figure is based on the IDW Comics design as well as the Transformers Robots in Disguise animated series. Sky-Byte was a great choice to include in the 30th Anniversary line as he is both a fan favorite and one of the most remembered characters from the RiD series.

Sky-Byte was voiced by Peter Spellos in the Transformers Robots in Disguise series and owning this new figure reminds me of the time that I got to meet Peter Spellos at BotCon 2002 and had a very nice conversation with him. It turned out we were both from the same area in New York. Mr. Spellos is a great guy and if you ever get the chance to meet him, go for it!

Availability: September 2014

Sculpt & Paint:

Sky-Byte is an all-new sculpted figure with design elements from both the animated series (Beast Wars Cybershark mold) and IDW Comics. In robot mode, he has the spinning claw weapon that also fires a missile, robot hand, shark’s finn at the top of his head, and the Predacon logo at the tip of the shark’s head pointing outward. The small wrist gun on his right arm were inspired by the IDW Comics design.

His beast mode is a bio-mechanical great white shark and is missing the mouth based missile launcher from the RiD toy (Beast Wars Transmetal 2 Cybershark mold). It is somewhat difficult to complete the transformation from robot to beast mode and after an hour of attempting to snap all the pieces together for a complete transformation, we decided to move onto the next photo shoot. Which is why the parts to his beast mode in our gallery don’t connect all the way that they should. The mouth piece opens just like the RiD figure and the spinning claw weapon can fire the missile in the beast mode as well.

Sky-Byte is painted in a metallic blue, silver, grey, yellow, turquoise, and a purple Predacon logo over pink deco at the tip of his nose.

Articulation:

Robot mode – swivel head, hinged-swivel shoulders, hinged-swivel elbow, spinning claw weapon, ball-jointed hips, swivel thighs, hinged knees, and hinged ankles.

Beast mode – opening mouth, ball-jointed finns, spinning claw weapon.

Accessories:

1 Missile.

Overall:

Sky-Byte is an excellent figure and fans of the character or of Transformers in general will want one.

Highly Recommended.
