Mattel’s Holiday Item is non other than Gwildor, a character that most Masters of the Universe fans have been waiting for. Based on his vintage toy, Gwildor comes with the Cosmic Key in vintage 1980’s toy colors, the Cosmic Key prototype, and his staff. The price point on him is a little higher than most MOTUC figures at $37 day-of, compared to Mermista and Spinnerella priced at $27 and $33 respectively.
Availability: December 2014
Sculpt & Paint:
Gwildor comes in an all-new sculpt and is based on the 1980’s vintage toy updated in Classics style. The articulation is mostly limited because of his robes that covers most of his body. He has a very detailed head sculpt, which looks like the spitting image of the 1987 film rather than the vintage toy. His eyes are also unique to each other with the right eyeball being smaller than the left one, and he has a lot of sculpted texture as his hair, point ears, and even some texture on his face. The robes are made of rubber and plastic at the arms and features a lot of pockets, gold coins and other objects stored in them and around a chain on his chest, and a lot of sculpted detail and design done to the robes.
Gwildor is painted in a red, blue, and green robes, with orange hair and brown highlights.
Articulation:
Ball-jointed head, swivel shoulders, hinged-swivel elbows, swivel wrists, hinged hips, hinged-swivel ankles.
Accessories:
Cosmic Key in vintage 1980’s toy colors, the Cosmic Key prototype, staff.
Bio:
Real Name: Gwildor
A Vejulian Gwitthrol Troll from Tundaria, Gwildor stood out in his clan for his great intellect and curiosity. Sent to study in Eternos, he attended Grimhammer University and studied under many great Eternian inventors, archeologists and magicians. Settling in a small village near Pelleezeea, Gwildor lived a solitary life until he created his greatest invention, the Cosmic Key, a device that could harness Universal Energy to open portals in space. Combined with the Magic of Central Tower, the Key could also be used to move through time itself. Hunted for his creation, Gwildor was forced to activate the cosmic key to escape to Earth! Eventually faking his own death, he traveled forward in time to a period when Temporal Travel was protected by powerful agents and his life would no longer be in constant danger.
Overall:
Gwildor is an excellent figure with both vintage toy and movie features, which is also uncommon for in the line. We love how all of these elements fit so well together.
HIghly Recommended.
