The G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club shipped out the fourth wave of The Figure Subscription Service 3.0 consisting of Hit & Run and Alpine.
Both Hit & Run and Alpine come with climbing gear as they are both skilled survivalists in dangerous environments, so it makes sense that the club combined these two for this shipment.
Availability: March 2015
Sculpt & Paint:
Alpine is based on the variant action figure from 2004 from the G.I. Joe Valor vs Venom line. Hasbro had already updated the vintage 1985 figure back in 2008 in the “Best of 80’s” DVD box set with the M.A.S.S. Device vehicle – the beam emitter.
He comes with a newly tooled head with removable goggles, and uses shared parts with previous G.I. Joe action figures. On this figure, his eyes have been painted cross-eyed, which is a unfortunate case, but this shouldn’t be a widespread issue as these are painted individually at the factory. His belt has a clip attached to hold rope and climbing gear while climbing, and his backpack can hold the pick axe and grappling hook.
Alpine is repainted in a light and dark green and brown uniform with the G.I. Joe logo on his chest.
Articulation:
Standard for modern G.I. Joe figures.
Accessories:
Figure Stand, Rope Bundle, Assault Rifle, Submachine Gun, Pick Axe, Grappling Hook, Backpack.
Overall:
Alpine is an excellent figures and a great update to the 2004 release. Since the vintage 1985 action figure was already updated in the “Best of 80’s” DVD box set and if you were able to obtain that, it’s not necessary to purchase this figure for your G.I. Joe team. If you did not obtain that, then this is a good substitute.
Highly Recommended.
