NECA Toys Batman 1989 Michael Keaton 6″ action figure is exclusively available at Toys “R” Us free with the purchase of a blue ray DVD edition of the classic movie by director Tim Burton. The set was released as part of the 25th Anniversary of the film.
Back in December of 2014, the figure had sold out quickly online and finding one in-stores wasn’t easy as these were made in limited quantities. It is also rare to see 6″ DC action figures from NECA due to licensing restraints, as they are limited to what they can actually make. Not only did they made a movie accurate Michael Keaton Batman figure in the live-action movie colors, but they also were able to release one based on the 8-bit video game (as shown below in our gallery). The good news is that NECA is once again shipping this figure to Toys “R” Us stores as of March 2015, so if you missed out on him in December, you might have another chance at obtaining him if you’re lucky.
Thank you to NECA for sending Batman 1989 figure to us for review.
Availability: December 2014, March 2015
Packaging:
The package is specially gold colored with the Batman movie logo at the top, and an image of the figure, along with the Batman logo and Gotham Globe Newspaper article on the back. The article can also be clipped by cutting around the yellow lines with a scissor for safe keeping. But you may want to keep the card back for future reference.
The packaging and figure is also a homage to the 1989 Toybiz figure.
Sculpt & Paint:
Batman uses the same sculpt as the 8-bit video game figure released to Toys “R” Us and online retailers, and is repainted using the black, yellow, and gold movie accurate colors. His head sculpt features the likeness to Actor Michael Keaton, with the mask over it and you can clearly tell from the likeness from the chin up.
The chest part of the suit as well as the mask are made from rubber and the arms and legs are made from plastic. Both finishes have a smooth feeling to them. The belt is sculpted on, and Batman includes interchangeable hands, but only the opened right hand can hold the batarang and spear gun.
Articulation:
Ball-Jointed head, ab crunch, swivel chest, ball-jointed shoulders, hinged elbows, swivel wrists, ball-jointed hips, hinged knees, and hinged-swivel ankles.
Accessories:
Batarang, Spear Gun, 2x Interchangeable right and left hands.
Overall:
Batman is an excellent figure with a great movie likeness and also pays tribute to he classic Toybiz figure from 1989. There is a lot to love about this figure, and we hope to see future partnerships with Warner Brothers with free figure offerings with future DVD releases.
Highly Recommended
