Funko Buffy The Vampire Slayer ReAction Figures Review

The first wave of Funko’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer ReAction Series includes Buffy, Angel, Spike, Willow (not shown), Oz, and The Gentlemen. Funko’s ReAction series has 5 points of articulation and features the 1980s style card back design.

The show was created by Joss Whedon (the Director of The Avengers) and ran from 1997-2003, and continued on as a comic book series by Dark Horse Comics. This was the only way to continue on with the story after the events of the town of Sunnydale obliterated after the hell mouth is closed on the show’s series finale, and by giving fans a comic book series (which we are reading!), it answered the burning question what happens next and why was Buffy smiling as she watched her town destroyed.

Funko has picked an odd choice in the first wave of the ReAction series, and that figure is The Gentlemen. They were featured in only one episode (but memorable!) of Buffy the Vampire Slayer titled “Hush.” There are other viable characters such as Giles, The Master, Drusilla, Darla, The Mayor Richard Wilkins III, Faith, Dracula, Angelus, Mr. Trick, Xander Harris, Anya Jenkins, and others that might have been better used for this spot. We hope to see a second wave soon and hope that Funko uses some of the characters from our list.

Sculpt & Paint:

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer ReAction figures each have 5 points of articulation and are based on the 1970’s and 1980’s style and packaging. Buffy is dressed in a black tank top, a red skirt, black boots, and a silver cross around her neck, and includes a wooden stake. Angel and Spike are sculpted very similar with Angel wearing a black jacket and pants, and Spike in a leather jacket going all the way down to his knees that he stole from Nikki Wood, a slayer that he killed in 1970’s New York City. Oz is the only other figure that includes an accessory, a guitar, and is sculpted in a dark pink shirt and grey pants, with a red and black bracelets on his wrists. The Gentlemen is sculpted in pale skin, bald, and is in a black suit and tie with a white undershirt.

Articulation:

Swivel heads, swivel arms, swivel legs.

Buffy – Wooden stake

Oz – guitar

Overall:

The Buffy ReAction figures are nicely detailed and sculpted figures with great likeness to the characters as seen on the live-action television series.
