F.A.O. Schwarz announcing the closing of its flagship store on July 15th, 2015, and is the companies last remaining store. The company has been present in New York City since 1870, and is forced to close because of rising rent costs as one of the factors. In 2009, Toys “R” Us purchased F.A.O. Schwarz and will continue to carry inventory in their stores, as well as FAO.com.

Earlier, Toys “R” Us also had announced they will be closing their own flagship store in Times Square New York at the end of 2016 according to Times Magazine.

The good news is that F.A.O. Schwarz brick & mortar store isn’t going away completely, as they are looking at a new location in New York City at a basement space at 1633 Broadway with an opening date more than a year away.
