Ask Jakks Q&A With Scott Neitlich – June 2015

Scott Neitlich, the new Director of Marketing for boys action figures and collectors for Jakks Pacific had taken some time from his busy schedule to answer a few questions for us. ToyHypeUSA will also be sending him monthly questions just like we did for Ask Matty, when he worked at Mattel as the brand manager for Masters of the Universe Classics. Send us your questions to [email protected] by June 14th.

ToyHypeUSA Exclusive - Interview With Scott Neitlich At Jakks Pacific

1. As a follow up from last month, since you are not just restricted to the four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from the 2012 series, are you at all restricted to just characters from that show, or could you expand the
48″ line to include the Classic 1987 Turtles figures and characters?

We are not restricted to characters, our scale is for 48” for the property. So it is possible in time you will see more characters and styles. But keep in mind (to manage expectations) that the 48” figures are a mom and kid purchase first and foremost so you won’t likely see deep deep collector level character selection at this scale. But we are huge fans of TMNT and are excited for what is possible!

2. The DC Universe 20″ line, when will you announce new characters, and can you also take fan recommendations such as Batgirl, Supergirl, Kilowog, The Flash, etc.?

We will have the latest on all of our lines at SDCC at our first ever JAKKS fan panel (details, time and day to come!). And yes, we are very excited to hear what characters fans are looking for! Bring it on!

3. Can you also look at including accessories such as a Batarang for Batman, and a construct for Green Lantern in the DC Universe 20″ line, or possibly look at an exclusive weapons pack?

While we love doing accessories, one of the hitches with the 20” JAKKS BIG FIG line is that are deliberately value priced at 19.99 SRP. At this price it makes it a little challenging to include accessories, but we are always trying to think outside of the box how this might be done in the future.

4. Are there any restrictions as to what characters you can produce in the 48″ Star Wars line after Darth Vader is released? For example, can you produce other characters like Chewbacca and other movie characters, and not any from Clone Wars or Rebels?

We do have access to a whole Galaxy of characters for Star Wars. The hitch with the 48” line is at this size the figures are quite expensive to tool and produce so we have to have a very high min order from retailers to move forward on any one figure. This means in the 48” line we will for the most part be focused on the big big A list characters. But Darth is definitely not the only one we are looking into!

5. I’m enjoying your 2″ figure sets and 6″ Super Mario figures. Would Bowser’s castle be something that you can look at?

Yes we have looked into ways of doing a Bowser Castle playlet. Nothing to announce, but it is something that has been talked about internally if we can ever find the right way to do something like this. Playsets are tough these days, with very few playlets at retail (vs what it was like in 1985 when every line has a playset!). But again, we’re always enthusiastic and exploring!
