Those of you that do not wish to be deprived from the surprise of opening your box, you might want to go back to our home page now. Otherwise, keep reading!
Funko is in the process of shipping out the June 2015 Marvel Collector Corps Ant-Man boxes to subscribers.
Before we get into the contents of the crate, we want to take this opportunity and say that we are starting to get concerned as Funko appears to be sticking with a certain formula at least for their second box, as opposed to more of a variety between the first two boxes.
For example, both boxes offered an exclusive pouch, pin, comic book, tee-shirt, and exclusive Bobble-Head figure. While the Ant-Man box may offer more, we also want to see Funko offer some of their higher priced collectibles such as a POP! Ride, Hikari, or something similar. In a previous conversation with Funko, they told us that POP! Rides are certainly eligible for the Marvel Collector Corps.
Before posting this article, we turned to Funko for an explanation, and this is what they had to say:
Funko: Your concerns about the box are valid. However, I would caution you to reserve judgement for now, especially since this is just our second box. While there is basic construct to the box, we pride ourselves in delivering a unique experience for our subscribers with each Collector Corps installment and look forward to showcasing different Funko products in the future.
While this is certainly encouraging, it doesn’t change the fact that both boxes (Avengers and Ant-Man) follow a similar format. We hope that the August box is more unique and contains a bit more “collectibility” considering that this is the first official Marvel subscription box. In our opinion, a pin, pouch, tee-shirt, and comic book can only go so far on the collector market and depending on the fan, he or she might not even want it. Which is why we hope to see more from Funko in the future and we encourage them to rise to the challenge.
Opening the box, the first two collectibles that you see are the exclusive pouch and pin polybagged.
Next up is the comic book, a variant exclusive cover to Ant-Man issue #5.
Ant-Man Mystery Mini Blind Boxed x2. There are 2 out of the 4 collectibles Mystery Mini Bobble Head figures offered and you have a 1/4 chance of obtaining a specific figure. Offered are masked Ant-Man (silver and black suit), Yellow Jacket, and Hank Pym unmasked. The two Ant-Man Bobble Head figures shown use the same sculpt and are repainted, creating two unique outfits.
Considering that Funko only ships 2 out of 4 of the Mystery Mini figures, it will become difficult for some collectors to complete the set as this is exclusive to the Marvel Collector Corps, and not all subscribers will look to sell what they have. For future reference, we are asking Funko to offer all 4 variations and replace it them with the tee-shirt.
The main figure in the set is a Ant-Man Vinyl Bobble Head with the smallest bobble head miniature figure as an added bonus. This figure comes unmasked, and shares the same body as the retail release of Ant-Man. The miniature figure does not have a spring, and instead the head just rolls around on a ball joint.
Lastly, a tee-shirt with the Ant-Man logo and an image of a miniature Ant-Man is shown with the words “Actual Size” written below him.
The Marvel Collector Corps Ant-Man set consists of several nice Bobble Head collectibles. The figures are what goes for the most on the secondary market, and we are asking Funko to considering offering only figures in future box set offerings.
