If you’ve been following our Fisher Price coverage including The Heritage Center and an interview with the Imaginext Marketing and Design team, we are continuing with the next of our reviews. Make sure to take a look at our review of the Ultra T-Rex and the Dino Fortress from this line as well.
Thank you to Fisher Price and Mattel for giving us Ankylosaurus & Saharicus at the Press Tour.
Availability: July 2015
Ankylosaurus is a pre-historic dinosaur that existed 68–66 million years ago and was also shown in the latest installment of Jurassic Park (Jurassic World) over the summer. The dinosaur is protected by a turtle like shell from the more fierce dinosaurs including the Tyrannosaurus Rex, and his defensive capabilities including the mace-shaped tail that he can swing at opponents. Fisher Price increased his capabilities by giving him a firing boulder cannon mounted on his back made from a tree bark. The cannon also includes a place for the tribal warrior to stand on the power pad, and once that is pressed, the tail is pushed up hitting the back of the cannon and fires the boulder.
The included tribal warrior includes a shield, staff, and armor and he comes with the most accessories compared almost every other figure in the line, which is unfortunate as the shield is a great addition.
Saharicus is a pre-historic Crocodile and the figure features a pivoting jaw, and a mounted cannon on his back that fires a bone. The figure includes a detailed and textured skin and the cannon is made from a tree bark with a mount with bones hanging at the sides. The missile is fired by pressing the button on top, and the tribal warrior includes armor.
Overall:
Fisher Price has done an amazing job on this prehistoric dinosaur collection and Ankylosaurus and Saharicus are two prime examples of how well dinosaurs can be made, even if they are for children.
We hope to see a second wave of this assortment.
