Playmates Toys shown their Half Shell Heroes line-up back at New York ToyFair 2015 that we had covered for you at that time. This is a 2″ line geared for children 3+ as opposed to the larger 5″ figures that the majority of our readership relates too. With that in mind, these are cute, scaled down figures based on the new Nickelodeon series that’s great for display or to pass down to your children to get them ready for a lifelong Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan.

Mikey measures at about 2-1/2″ tall and is holding his nunchucks that are sculpted inside his hands. The paint of the nunchucks are a reddish-brown, and the tip of the nunchuck left inside his the palm of his hand is left green, as opposed to being painted in the appropriate reddish-brown color. The rest of the sculpt is painted correctly with all the bandages painted brown, and the bandana orange. Also painted is the shell, chest, eyeballs, teeth, and tongue. His sculpt includes large feet and hands that aren’t exactly proportional to the rest of his body, as it’s a thin, lean sculpt. He includes a swivel head, swivel-hinged shoulders, and swivel hips.
The skateboard does not have wheels that can turn, and instead are left as part of the base. It does feature swiveling wings that can pop out by pressing the handle bars together.
Snakeweed measures about 2-3/4″ and Spider-Bytez about 2 1/2″ tall. Both figures feature a very detailed and unique sculpts that represent junior versions of the characters as seen in the Nickelodeon series. Snakeweed includes a swivel head, swivel-hinged shoulders, and swivel hips. When you move the head, the back vines also swivel with it as these parts are all one piece. He is painted in green, with yellow, and pink, with red dotted eyes.
Spider-Bytez is a short and round figure with spider tentacles at the top of his head, and short legs and arms. His mouth take up almost the entire bottom portion of his body and beveled inward with four teeth shown. His eyes are also detailed and painted red around them and off to the sides with a “V” in the center. There is also some sculpting on his back that could have been painted red, but was left black. The only articulation he has is a swivel-hinged shoulders, and the tentacles and legs are do not move.
Overall:
Playmates Toys Half Shell Heroes line is great for kids of any age as well as some adult collectors that wish to display them next to the larger 5″ scale figures or on their own. This is a great scale for large scale vehicles and play sets as it’s cheaper to produce those for this scale, rather than a larger one.
