Diamond Select Toys released the fourth wave of their Marvel Minimates Villain Zombies. This box set is based on Marvel’s Secret Wars comic series and the tie-in comic Marvel Zombies vs. Age of Ultron. This tie-in comic focused on the badlands (the place where the Zombies ruled) and their war against Ultron and his drones.
This box contains Zombie versions of Pyro, Bullseye The Vulture, and an Ultron Drone.
For those of you that read the comic, you would know that Marvel did not feature any of the Marvel Zombie hero characters such as Thor and Spider-Man, and only featured the villains. It’s one thing to not allow hero zombies toys to be made, but to disregard them in the comics as well? Really Disney? It’s really unfortunate that this had to happen as we would have loved to see the hero zombies back in the comics as well. We’re big fans of the Marvel Zombies and were very disappointed that no heroes were shown. Hopefully it won’t always be this way.

We’re kicking this off with the Ultron drone, as he is the only non-zombie character in the box. First thing, we want to point out that this Ultron drone took the place of a fourth Marvel Zombie, and for those of you that love zombies, maybe offering this as a five pack may have been the way to go?
Ultron Drone stands on the standard Minimate body (as they all are) and given a superb paint job. He is given some red and black deco on his head and chest to showcase the features on his body, including eyes, mouth, and android components. The rest of the body is painted silver. He includes an acrylic figure stand and an effect stand to showcase he’s taken flight.
Bullseye is painted in his black and white outfit and features a removable mask, removable guts, interchangeable arm limbs, and a throwing knives effect accessory. His outfit is detailed with black lines and the guts are just an awesome but gruesome effect. He also includes an acrylic figure stand.
We love Spider-Man villains, and The Vulture includes his iconic wings, flight stand, interchangeable arms, and a guts effect that replaces his legs.
Both of the legs and guts work well on the stand, and his green suit has the black lines painted on to create details. The acrylic figure stand plugs into the bottom of the flight stand, and the flight stand attaches itself at the center of the figure.
Finishing off the fourth villains box set is non other than Pyro. Of the four of them, we think that Pyro is the most detailed and would make an awesome 7″ Select figure. Pyro features a flame effect hair, flame effect on his shoulder, and two flame effect hand attachments. The rubes on his back are made of rubber and plug into his backpack and wrist guards. His yellow and brown costume include the black line details and his eyes are just spooky with the red glare and that evil looking smirk on his face. All of these features come together nicely and make a great Zombie Pyro Minimates figure. He also includes an acrylic figure stand.
Overall:
Once again, Diamond Select Toys offers a great Marvel Zombie Minimates box set and we are more than pleased with the outcome of the set. While it’s clear that Pyro is our favorite, both Bullseye and The Vulture also have their own distinct features that brings out the best of them.
The Ultron Drone is the only figure that we wish had something more to offer such as interchangeable battle damage pieces or additional Ultron parts for the other Zombies to replace their limbs (spoiler alert for those of you that did not read the comic!). There is also the issue that the Ultron Drone took the place of a fourth Marvel Zombie character, and considering these come out one box set a year, they should have made this a five pack.
