Sculpt & Paint:
We love Green Lantern figures. Ever since Blackest Night and the Sinestro War from Geoff Johns, we’ve been reading as many Green Lantern comic books lately as we can and just can’t get enough. If you have not read these, you should. It’s just that good. Now that Hal is out, and Jon Stewart is coming, hopefully DC Collectibles will expand the line to not only the men and woman in green, but some yellow, red, purple, white, violet, black, and orange to round out the emotional spectrum.
Green Lantern measures roughly 6″ tall and is sculpted with a thin/lean body, and based on his appearance from the Dark Days storyline.
Just like all previous Icons figures, his tooling is 100% new and the tooling on the costume and head sculpt is very well done. His head sculpt includes a green mask that protects his identity, and both of his right hands come with a ring sculpted on. Add some really nice looking accessories such as his lantern, construct hand, and armor, and you have one awesome Green Lantern figure.
The armor is the primary focus of the figure, as it requires larger packaging than a standard figure. The armor comes in pieces in the packaging, and has to be handled very delicately. The armor includes snap on pieces on the thighs, and feet, and these pieces can break easily if excessive force is applied. The pieces that attach to his thighs can be a little difficult to put on at first, and you have to be very careful when you break it apart to put the pieces over his thighs and feet. This requires patience and whatever you do, don’t rush it.
The armor is made of green transparent plastic, with some very nice detailed sculpting and tooling. The wings are ball jointed, and attach to the sides of the jets on back.
Other parts of the armor attach much easier including the wings, which can be disconnected from the rest of the top piece, shoulder, and arm cannons. The right cannon has an opening compartment, which reveals ammo. The arm cannons connect by removing Hal’s forearms, and you use the peg to snap the cannons onto his arm.
The armor itself is a little wobbly on the figure, but it’s secure and won’t fall off.
Articulation:
ball-socket head, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double hinged elbows, swivel-hinged and removable wrists, ball jointed chest, lower ab crunch, ball jointed hips, double hinged knees, and hinged-swivel rocker ankles.
Accessories:
2x Interchangeable hands (open, fisted), fist construct, lantern, armor (comes in pieces).
Overall:
Green Lantern Hal Jordan is an excellent figure, a great paint job, and a great sculpt. We wish that the armor could withstand some more rough play considering if this was purchased for a child, so just be aware that he should be given to adults only as the armor might break in the hands of children.
The armor design is very well done, and everything about this armor construct is well constructed.
Highly Recommended.
