Just in time for the holidays, Diamond Select Toys released the next wave of their Universal Monsters Select figures including Lucy Westenra, The Wolfman, and The Mummy version 2. Lucy is an all new original character created by Diamond Select Toys and re-imagined based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula as a fierce warrior woman. The Wolfman is based on the classic 1941 film and The Mummy is based on the classic film from 1932, and both given an all new sculpts by legendary toy sculptor Jean St. Jean.
Thank you to Diamond Select Toys for providing their Universal Monsters Select Lucy Westenra, The Wolfman, and The Mummy figures for review.

We’re kicking off this review with Lucy Westenra, a figure shown to us back at New York ToyFair and is our personal favorite figure of the wave. For a sculpting standout, she has the most going on compared to The Wolfman and The Mummy. Starting with the head sculpts, she has two very distinctive looks, one that almost looks human with red eyes, long blonde hair, and the other showing her vampire teeth with a hood, 1800’s technology with red shades and binoculars. The alternate head also comes with a small acrylic stand.
Lucy stands about 8″ tall and includes a very complex sculpt, which includes some of the most complex paint apps we’ve seen from DST this year. Her outfit is unique compared to the normal 1800’s clothing, and features a tan shirt with green trim on the sleeves and shoulders, brown pants, long black boots, a black girdle, a black belt, black gloves and wrist guards. The outfit is very detailed and includes a holster for her pistol, two holsters for her swords on her back, pouches belt buckles, bronze elbow and shoulder guards, wooden stakes, and a backpack that is attached to tubing and a gun that fires green liquid. The backpack is sculpted to her back and cannot be removed, and the gun is connected to it by tubing that also includes a shoulder strap, and can be held in her hand and ready to fire. Her swords are made of soft plastic, and are loose in both of her hands as the handles are too small, but at least the pistol and the gun are held firmly.
Her figure base includes some sculpted texture including stone, dirt, moss, and does not include the stone pillars and doorway as the early press samples have shown. She also does not include her long sword.
The Wolfman was one of the very first Universal Monsters figures that DST did, and is re-introduced again into the line with an all new sculpt, all of the articulation points needed to make him realistic. He stands at slightly over 8″ tall and is sculpted in a green button down shirt, and blue jeans, and a brown belt with a silver buckle. His head sculpt is spot on as far a classic movie accuracy, and features sharp wolf fangs, grey skin, a brown hair completely covering his forehead, a beard, and a black nose. His hands are sculpted with sharp claws and his feet are sculpted with the back half upward, and he stands on the balls of his feet. His toes also include long sharp nails.
His figure base is the ruins of a tomb, and features a broken column, bones, skulls, moss, and includes some great realistic texture. He does not include any accessories, as he really doesn’t need any.
The Mummy stands slightly over 8″ tall and is a modern update to the previous version. This new figure is sculpted with individual bandages, which are each given its own texture as they are rough and feel very realistic. The bandages are painted off white, and look dirty to give them an even more realistic look. The head and hands are mummified, and painted grey with realistic dry looking skin, veins on his hands, and his hair is rough and detailed with a realistic look.
Included with The Mummy is a non-articulated Egyptian statue that’s painted in gold and blue, with ancient Egyptian clothing that’s textured. The statue also includes an Egyptian hat, and she holds two artifacts in her hands. There is a peg hole at the bottom of her feet, but she actually doesn’t stand on the base too well as the pegs don’t work with her that well.
The base is the inside of an Egyptian temple, with a broken column that’s painted in various colors including tan, and the base itself has a sandy bottom with some rough texture. There are three individual accessories including a rolled up scroll, a broken bottle, and a broken bowl that rest on the base.
Overall:
There is no denying that Diamond Select Toys made three awesome looking Universal Monsters Select figures in this new wave and each figure has their own very distinctive look that’s brought into toy form very well. We love the complex sculpts and uniqueness that each character brings to the line.
Highly Recommended.
