Transformers Generations Combiner Wars Blast Off Review

Transformers Generations Combiner Wars Blast Off 08

Hasbro continues with the Combiner Wars theme with Bruticus, the classic Decepticons character that is build by using the Combaticon figures. Swindle, Blast Off, Vortex, Onslaught, and Brawl are all available now and can be purchased at the links below.

With Combiner Wars ending in 2015, Hasbro is moving the line to the next theme called Titans Return, which they will focus on in 2016.

The battle doesn’t get any bigger than this! Transformers Generations Combiner Wars figures combine to form giant super robots. Build the most powerful Combiner robots from Transformers lore, including characters like Superion and Menasor, or come up with a different combination! This Deluxe Class Decepticon Blast Off figure can become part of a Bruticus Combiner build. Collect all 6 Combaticon figures (each sold separately) to build a Bruticus figure. Most bots unlucky enough to find themselves in the sights of Decepticon Blast Off don’t have any idea what’s about to hit them. His preferred method is to attack from orbit, destroying targets with a pinpoint laser strike from high above a planet’s surface. He combines with his fellow Combaticons to form Bruticus. Onslaught forms the torso, Decepticon Blast Off and Decepticon Vortex form the arms, Brawl and Swindle form the legs, and Decepticon Shockwave becomes a Combiner weapon. Collect all 6 Combaticons figures to build a giant Bruticus Combiner robot. (Figures are each sold separately.) The Combiner Wars universal connection system makes this Decepticon Blast Off figure compatible with Voyager Class Combiner Wars figures, so there are numerous combinations that can be created. Bruticus 1 of 5. This Decepticon Blast Off figure changes from robot to jet and back in 8 steps and, with a blaster accessory, comes ready for battle. It also comes with a collectible Combiner Wars comic book featuring a Hasbro-exclusive Decepticon Blast Off cover, specially created character content, and a look inside the Transformers design desk. Transformers and all related characters are trademarks of Hasbro.

Transformers Generations Combiner Wars Blast Off 01

Blast Off is a repaint of Quickslinger and transforms into a jet fighter, and not a space shuttle like his Generation 1 counterpart. The concept behind Combiner Wars is keeping it based on Generation One, and Hasbro have done a great job on that in 2015 with this line. Continuing the trend is Blast Off, but unfortunately unlike the other Combaticons, he doesn’t quite live up to the same standards as far as vehicle mode.

He features a G1 inspired head that’s repainted from Firefly, with the flat panels on the side, a visor, and a mouth. The problem with using this head sculpt is that it doesn’t quite live up to Blast Off’s appearance as seen in the classic show. The good news is that the joints on Blast Off are tighter compared to those on Quickslinger.

Blast Off is the only combaticon combiner that has not been given any retooling using previous molds, and is just a straight up repaint with a brand new vehicle mode not previously seen on his before. The colors however make up for this as these are spot on. The metallic purple and green are really nice and separate him from other figures using this mold. The yellow deco is used for vents, just like the G1 toy, and the Decepticon logo is on his upper left chest. There is also black used for his hands, face, blaster, feet and the sides of his chest.

The vehicle mode is a fighter jet, as as he mentioned above, does not fit in with his space shuttle vehicle mode used in G1. However, the deco more than makes up for it as that is at least spot on. The cockpit is colored lavender, as seen on the windows of G1 Blast Off. On top of the wings are a small Decepticon logo, and the purple lines represent the purple stripes as seen on the vintage toy. The back verticle finn also has the Decepticon logos with black deco on the sides.

Articulation:

Robot mode – swivel head, ball jointed shoulders, hinged elbows, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, and hinged knees.

Vehicle mode – hinged landing gear.

Accessories:

blaster, comic book, instructions, hand/foot for Bruticus.

Overall:

Blast Off is a nicely detailed figure and a nice homage to the G1 toy and his animated appearance. The colors are excellent and make up for the fact he’s not all G1 accurate.

For those of you that need a completely G1 accurate Blast Off figure, you may want to order the Unite Warriors Bruticus combiner by Takara. This Blast Off figure will be a space shuttle.

Recommended.
