Playmates Toys released the next wave of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures based on the Fugitoid storyline as seen in the series. April O’Neil gets a brand new figure inspired on the current season and also pays homage to the original yellow and white costume as seen in the Classic series.
Availability: February 2016
Sculpt & Paint:
April O’Neil features a brand new sculpt and based on the 4th season of the Nickelodeon series. April is given a new space outfit given to her by Professor Honeycutt (the Fugitoid) as she travels through space with the Turtles and Casey Jones to stop the Triceratons from using the wormhole generator from destroying Earth. The space uniform is painted in yellow and a pearl white, which is also a homage to the Classic series April O’Neil.
Compared to the 2012 April O’Neil figure, her head sculpt is smaller, as well as a better and more accurate representation of the character as seen in the show. Her hair is painted red, and she has a head band sculpted over her hair. Her outfit includes some detailed sculpted line, which make the outfit look more accurate. Sculpted on her back is a jetpack, are there are additional jets sculpted at the bottom of the back of her calves, which are also attached to her cleated space boots. There is also a holster sculpted to her right hip for her included space blaster. Het helmet is made of clear plastic and there is a peg at the back, which plugs into the top of the jetpack.
Articulation:
swivel head, hinged-swivel shoulders, swivel forearms, waist rotation, hinged-swivel hips.
Accessories:
blaster, space helmet
Overall:
April O’Neil is an excellent figure and is as show accurate as possible. This is also a vast improvement over the 2012 figure and we feel that both new and old Turtles fans will love it.
We also want to point out that her gun can fit the other way around in the holster, and this mistake was caught too late to make any changes before starting the next review.
Highly Recommended.
