Kratos stands at 7″ tall and features one of the most impressive deco’s that NECA Toys has ever done in our opinion. The grey wash is splattered over the lighter grey as well as the red on his torso, head, and left arm. The video game likeness here is uncanny, and NECA continues to make some great figure in their Ultimate line-up.
Just like in the video game, Kratos includes the Blades of Athena, which he can store on his back as well as hold in his hands. The blades are not connected to the chains on his forearms, which is unlike the game. The chains are sculpted to his forearms, and the issue here is that they are painted in both gold and silver. These are mismatched, and the bracelets on his forearms that the chains are sculpted onto are gold, so it’s a factory issue that the paint bleeds over on the chains. This is a small issue, considering that the figure is so great.
He has a shoulder guard on his right shoulder, which is spattered in blood from his kills throughout the game. The shoulder guard below that can be removed so that the Nemean Cestus (lion head gauntlets) can be held. The shoulder guards have some nice detail on them, and both of them are made of soft plastic.
The skirt is painted with a gold and brown pattern on the front, and around the sides and back it is left brown with some line work sculpted in to represent leather. The skirt is held in place by a belt, which is painted in gold and has a very nice detailed pattern all around it. The skirt also has the holes at the bottom as seen in the game, and the holes have a black ring over it sculpted on the front only. Underneath the skirt are bandages painted in grey that feature some nice sculpted texture.
Kratos’ feet are sculpted in sandals, and over the feet are straps holding them in place. The straps are sculpted with line work and some black highlights, which makes it look realistic. These straps are also sculpted over his leg, and there are gold boots (we’ll call them boots) over the straps with some black wash over it. Sculpted on the side of the boots are some light brown features, that are made of soft plastic and you can bend it. The features are nicely detailed, and have three layers.
His feet are ball jointed, and they also have limited range of motion due to the boots. But this is a small set back. The sandals are also hinged at the front, and can slightly lift upward.
On his back is a sheath for the Blades of Athena, which both can fit. The sheath is removable, and leaves two peg holes on his back. NECA thought of that, and is offering two plugs for the pack (polybagged and shown above). The plugs work nicely, but for our purposes we did not attempt to put them on and remove them. So we are unsure if there is any difficulty or not in removing them later on. The Blades of Athena have the same chain deco problem as stated above, with the silver and gold bleeding. as the forearms have. The blades are very nicely detailed and made of translucent orange plastic, and feature some nicely sculpted detail and they even have skulls above the handles.
Kratos also includes an interchangeable closed mouth head sculpt, and two Nemean Cestus (lion head gauntlets). The Nemean Cestus are incredible. The face of the lion head is very detailed with sharp fangs, a lion’s mane, nose, eyes, and mouth. The back of it is opened in parts, where you can see Kratos’ arm inside as he uses this weapon. His arms fit nicely inside, and just remember to remove the lower arm guard before placing it into his arm, otherwise it won’t fit.
Overall:
NECA Toys have once again done an incredible job on the sculpting and painting of this figure. The video game likeness is incredible and Kratos looks like he just jumped out of the game, and onto your toy shelves. While there are some minor issues as stated above, they are small compared to this highly detailed figure. Fans of the video game franchise and NECA Toys will love this one.
Highly Recommended!
