Ask Jakks Q&A With Scott Neitlich – March 2016

Update: We realized after this was published these questions were submitted on March 1st. We are waiting to hear back on the status of the questions submitted on February 1st. Our apologies for this, and we will continue to work with Jakks to get you those answers.

Update 2 (3/9): The February 1st submissions are up!

Scott Neitlich, the Director of Marketing for boys action figures and collectors for Jakks Pacific had taken some time from his busy schedule to answer a few questions for us. ToyHypeUSA will also be sending him monthly questions just like we did for Ask Matty, when he worked at Mattel as the brand manager for Masters of the Universe Classics. Send us your questions to [email protected] by March 25th.

1. At ToyFair, we learned that C3PO will come in two versions – Red arm standard version, and a grey leg variant version. Exactly how rare is the variant version going to be? Ex: 1/5?

The ratio of Ep 7 red arm to gold arm/grey leg is about 3:1.  We like the idea of having a few chase variants and hopefully this one gets consumer excited and sets us up for success.

2. The 31″ Electronic BB-8 figure, what features does it have other than a ball head? Also what is the price point on him?

BB-8 has lights and sounds to him that activate when you push a button on the top of his head.  As you note, the head does have a ball joint which allows for manually swiveling.  There is also a compartment where BB-8’s arm extends out and he can give the thumbs up sign like in the movie.  The SRP for BB-8 is $49.99/

3. Has Jakks considered a comic-accurate Static Shock for the Big Figs line?

At this point, we have kept our character selection for the DC Universe segment to the most familiar ones for kids and fans.  We will keep him in mind for the future, but there are no immediate plans for Static Shock at this time.

4. What happened to any Star Wars Rebels reveals at Toy Fair? Any more characters based on that show planned?

The good news is that there has been so much new content in Star Wars in the last year that we have had a lot of new figures.  It is hard to get them all to retail and Rebels is one that most retailers replaced with Episode VII product.  We have a couple waiting in the wings to make and are looking for some retail opportunities to bring them to market.

5. When choosing DC characters for Big Figs, are female characters like Batgirl, Supergirl, Vixen, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Power Girl, Black Canary, Hawkgirl, and others been considered?

Female characters are definitely being considered.  You will find Wonder Woman from Batman vs. Superman, Dawn of Justice on shelves now in the Big Figs line.  There will likely be others in the future, but we don’t have anything to announce officially right now.
