NECA Toys expands their very popular 8-bit classic video game collection this month with the release of the T2 Classic Video Game T-800 figure. This collection focuses on classic video game figures from the late 1980’s and early 1990’s of the Sega Genesis game console.
This figure is based on the 1991 8-Bit Terminator 2: Judgment Day video game from Sega Genesis, and is painted to look pixelated as seen in the game.
Thank you to NECA Toys for providing their Terminator 2: Judgement Day Classic Video Game Appearance T-800 figure for review.
Availability: April 2016
The T2 Classic Video Game T-800 figure shares the new Ultimate T-800 figure sculpt that was introduced last year as part of NECA’s Ultimate 7″ scale figure line. The figure utilizes the figure base, as well as two of the three heads, and the shotgun accessory.
If you own last years Ultimate T-800 figure, you will be familiar with what you can expect here. The figure features bullet holes on the front and back of his jacket, detailed tooling in the jacket, pants, and undershirt that is reused from previous Terminator figures, and is repainted using the game’s pixelated look. The new deco is highly detailed, and includes shades of grey, white, red, and black deco on the figure and the shotgun.
The T-800 includes two head sculpts, black sunglasses and battle-damaged that are interchangeable. Both of the head sculpts are painted with a red, black, and white face, and red and black hair as seen in the game. The shotgun is also painted to look pixelated, and is painted in black, dark grey, light grey, and white. His articulation is the same, and includes a ball-jointed head, ball-jointed shoulders, ball-hinged elbows, ball-jointed wrists, waist rotation, ball-hinged hips, swivel thighs, swivel-hinged knees, ball-jointed ankles.
We don’t always cover the packaging. But this time around we have to address how nicely done the packaging is for this figure. Like the figure, the packaging pays homage to the video game features artwork on the front cover that was also used on the game, and the window boxed packaging also includes a pixelated truck backdrop that we had used in some of the images below.
Overall:
NECA continues to do an incredible job on each new Ultimate and video game retro figure that they introduce. The T2 Classic Video Game T-800 figure resembles the game very well and is also an excellent addition to the line. We hope to see more updates to Terminator figures in the future.
Highly Recommended.
