DC Collectibles have given us another opportunity to give you an advance review of their upcoming DC Icons 6″ Superman action figure, which will be available in June. Superman is based on his classic red and blue costume and includes his Fortress of Solitude robotic caretaker Kalex.
Superman is part of the third wave, which also includes Atomica, Aquaman, and Harley Quinn. He is #10 of the line.
Thank you to DC Collectibles for giving us the opportunity to give our readers a first look and review of their DC Icons 6″ Superman figure.
Availability: June 2016
Superman stands at 6″ tall and is sculpted in his classic red and blue costume. The paint apps on him are especially well done, including the “S” symbol on his chest and cape. His eyes seem to be a bit of a mishap, and while the pupils are fine, there is some pinkish tint around the edges, which is unfortunate and if this was done to try and give him a pre-heat vision effect, it didn’t work out so well. The sculpt is smooth and the joints are nice and sturdy. Even though Superman is meant to use less plastic compared to other Superman figures from DC Collectibles, the muscles look a bit underdeveloped especially the biceps. There is also a gap that is noticeable when looking at him from either side on the trunks, whereas all other 6″ Icons figures had their knees sculpted further up, Superman’s is sculpted lower than it should have been. The head sculpt is very nicely done, and the curl of the hair, which is resting on his forehead is a nice bonus. Superman includes two pairs of interchangeable hand sculpts (open and fisted).
Kalex is Superman’s robotic caretaker in the Fortress of Solitude, and includes a great likeness of the character. Kalix stands at roughly 3″ tall, and roughly 5 3/4″ while on the stand. He features three points of articulation including a ball jointed neck, and swivel arms. The lower body appears to have articulation, but it actually doesn’t swivel, only bend. The gold metallic deco and the red translucent visor are nicely done, and the sculpt includes some nicely detailed lines carved in. The gold deco also has some darker gold wash over it in some spots, which makes it stand out even more. Included with Kalex is an acrylic figure stand, which is inserted through his lower back to make him stand. While on the stand, Kalex can be a little top heavy, but looks great with or without it.
Superman and Kalex are very nicely sculpted figures with a great likeness to the comics. We are very happy with the fact that DC Collectibles is offering characters in their classic costumes again, with some key comic accessories. This has been sorely missed when they launched their New 52 line, which was replaced once again by 6″ Icons. Fans of Superman’s classic costume won’t want to miss out on this figure.
