Last month, we had some advance reviews of Atomica and Superman Icons 6″ action figures and now we’re wrapping up wave 3 with Aquaman and Harley Quinn. DC Collectibles had a long hiatus between waves and now fans can finally purchase the latest Icons series at their local comic shops and online. Each figure features a good amount of articulation and paint and are based on all generations of DC Comics.
Aquaman is part of the third wave, which also includes Atomica, Superman, and Harley Quinn. He is #11 of the line.
Availability: June 2016
This version of Aquaman is based on his appearance in 1989’s “The Legends of Aquaman,” which was a one shot origin story. Aquaman features a brand new sculpt with a bright orange shirt with some sculpted texture, and green gloves and tights. These colors resemble the classic look of Aquaman as he is best remembered. The deco works very well and is a good representation of classic Aquaman, and with all the articulation this figure was given there are some great choices to recreate many of his classic poses.
Included with Aquaman are two interchangeable head sculpts, with one with a hole drilled in that you can plug in the telepathy wave effect. Also included is his classic trident, and three sets of interchangeable hand sculpts.
Overall:
This version of Aquaman would have been our second choice as the 90’s bearded Aquaman with the hook hand is a personal favorite. While we’re hoping that DC Collectibles brings that version of him into this line, this is still a great figure with excellent paint apps, and the bonus accessory of the telepathy wave effect is long overdue to be included with an Aquaman figure. This is definitely a figure to pickup for any DC fan.
Highly Recommended.
