Ask Jakks Q&A With Craig Drobis – August 2016

Ask Jakks Q&A With Craig Drobis – August 2016

Craig Drobis is the SVP of Marketing for boys action figures and collectors for Jakks Pacific following Scott Neitlich’s departure. Craig will now be answering your questions moving forward for all Ask Jakks submissions. ToyHypeUSA will be sending him monthly questions and we will have your answers back on or around the 1st of each month. Send us your questions to [email protected] by August 28th.

1. How has the partnership been with Entertainment Earth for the Big Figs C-3PO and Joker’s Wild Batman? Has the outcome and sales of these figures been what Jakks had expected, and can future offerings through Entertainment Earth be a possibility in the future for conventions and retail exclusives?

It has been a strong partnership with Entertainment Earth to supply some great, Comic-Con exclusive Big Figs at the show.  Jakks is able to include the additional features, decoration, and premium packaging execution that these great Big Figs allow and create limited editions that we can’t always execute for the mass market.  This is our second year working with EE at the show and we feel that it has been successful for all involved, including and especially for the great fans and collectors of Big Figs.

2. Will Jakks Pacific be attending New York Comic-Con this year? Are there any upcoming surprises including a convention exclusive, and Winter 2016, Spring 2017 reveals?

Unfortunately we are not attending NY Comic-Con.  There are some other projects in the vein of the premium executions of Comic-Con that we are developing and hopefully we will have more to share in the coming months.

3. Is 3D-It over, and could Jakks explore revisiting the technology as it is becoming very popular right now?

3D-It as it was developed hasn’t changed.  The idea of creating and customizing figures is clearly something people want so we want to improve upon it.  We aren’t there yet.

4. What were the reveals for Super Mario at San Diego Comic-Con, and what was the fan reaction like during the panel?

The fans of Nintendo have been the most engaging and enthusiastic at our panel the past two years.  They come with great questions and Ideas and it is always one of our highlights of the year to speak directly to the fans with the whole development team on hand.  The reactions to the line were tremendous.
As far as unveils, we showed off our wave 10 of 4″ figures which will be available in the spring including new tools for Peppy Hare and Villager Boy, and we showed Wave 10 of the 2.5″ figures with new tools KC Slider, Gesso, and Toad.  We also gave some more details on the Trophy Series editions exclusive to Walmart in 4″ and 2.5″ and revealed the 4″ and 2.5″ Prototype series exclusive to Target.  Finally, we debuted our wave 10 of the plush with a new Splatoon Squid color and Piranha Plant.  We also showed off the first production samples of the Mario Kart Mini Radio Control car and ran little demo.  The RC is hitting retail shelves now.  The line as a whole is awesome and we want to continue to grow it since there is clearly a demand for more Nintendo toys from the fans.  There will be more SKU’s offered in Target and Walmart this fall and Toys R Us and many other retailers continue to be tremendous supporters of the brand, making it all more accessible for everyone to engage with their favorite Nintendo game characters.

5. What are the latest developments as far as an official poll for Star Wars; The Force Awakens and Rogue One Big Figs? Are characters including General Hux, Maz Kantana, and Sergeany Jyn Erso (Rogue One) considered for this as well as for the line in general?

We do not have an official poll with regard to Star Wars.  We are very excited about the Rey and BB-8 figures that are coming to market in the coming weeks.  We brought a few 31″ scale (20″ tall) BB-8’s with us to Comic-Con and they sold out quickly each day.  They should start appearing on retail web sites and in stores very soon.  Beyond that, we aren’t able to make any more announcements at this time, but I can say there are lots of exciting things in the Star Wars galaxy to come in Big Figs.
