Abomination is going to be offered again in Hasbro’s Captain America: Civil War Marvel Legends Wave 3 assortment that is due out in August 2016. This figure is a darker green repaint of the upcoming build-a-figure, and includes some newly tooled parts, along with reused legs, elbows, and forearms from Rhino. Abomination stands at 8″ tall and includes a heavy sculpt with lots of detailed texture and tooling. His head sculpt consists of sculpted texture on the top of his head, and open mouth with bloody yellow teeth, yellow eyes, and the head rests on a hall joint that is also connected to a hinge joint. The torso, shoulders, hands, and feet are also newly tooled, and the reused parts mixes well with the new parts. Throughout the sculpt, there is a lot of detailed tooling and texture including lumps, and on his back are layers of fish-like gills and a spiked spinal cord.
Sandman is offered for the first time in an all brown sand-colored deco in the 6″ Marvel Legends line. He stands at 7 1/2″ tall and features a reused torso, legs, belt, feet, shoulders, and arms from the Absorbing Man build-a-figure, and includes a newly tooled head. The sculpt was amazing on Absorbing Man, and works just as well for Sandman. Since he uses the Absorbing Man torso, the veins on his chest are noticeable even though he is wearing a striped shirt that was painted in the sand colors. The sculpt is muscular, and he towers over Spider-Man in the box set due to his size and build. The deco is also very well done, and he is painted in brown pants, dark brown belt and shows, and dark brown textured hair. The stripes on his chest are are nice and crisp. It’s only a matter of time until Hasbro offers the classic colored deco of Sandman using this sculpt. That figure will likely be the build-a-figure of that wave.
Spider-Man and Purple Man each includes reused parts of existing figures. Spider-Man is a reissue/repaint of the very popular super articulation and posable pizza body (the initial figure came with a slice of pizza) and has become the dominate Spider-Man mold of the Marvel Legends series. He is painted in his blue and red costume and black webbing and white eyes. Purple Man makes his Marvel Legends debut and reuses the body and hands used for The Chameleon, and he is repainted in a purple suit, black tie, red undershirt, and black shoes. His head sculpt is newly tooled and has a good likeness to the character. His head and hands are painted in purple and he is painted with black hair.
Enchantress makes her Marvel Legends debut and uses the body of Scarlet Witch, and features a newly tooled head, and skirt to match her likeness. Her hex bolts are remolded in green and have also been previously used for Dr. Strange. Her sculpt is very nicely done and the green and black deco works very well together and resembles the character nicely. The deco on her pants are nicely painted The only problem here is that her high heels create some problems with making her fall over in certain poses, and even though Hasbro did this for comic book accuracy, they should have also included a figure stand. She already has the peg holes drilled on the bottom of her feet, so a figure stand is required here for most poses. The head sculpt is nicely detailed, with wavy blonde hair and a green headband.
Dreadknight is most remembered for his mid-1990’s appearance on the Iron Man animated series during the Marvel Action Hour, which also aired the Fantastic Four. What a time it was to be a fan of Marvel those days, as not only the cartoons were great, but they also offered excellent toy lines that were easy to obtain, inexpensive, and had great distribution. Dreadknight makes his Marvel Legends debut and features an all new sculpt and is a great representation of the character. The sculpt represents a medieval knight, and has sculpted texture on his arms and legs, with a smooth purple shirt, gloves, boots, and cape. His head sculpt is very nicely done with the iron helmet, and the sword and lance are very detailed and tooled. On his chest is a skull with bones painted in white, and there is a holster for his sword on his waist.
Overall:
Marvel The Raft Legends Series is an excellent box set consisting of some much needed characters included in your Marvel Legends collection including Purple Man, Enchantress, and Dreadknight. The detail and deco on these figures are very well done and this comes in one of the best packages offered in 6″ scale so far. Hasbro’s packaging design team have blown this one out of the park, and the sculptors did an equally great job on the figures too. This is a must-buy for any Marvel fan.
Highly Recommended.
