Mattel’s Club Grayskull releases its fourth and fifth figures this month that is based on the classic Filmation series of Masters of the Universe. This month, Beast Man and the subscription exclusive Evil Seed figures are making their debut into the line and are sculpted to represent their animated appearance as opposed to the vintage toyline.
Beast Man actually sold out in 5 minutes according to reports from around the internet, which only strengthens the line as it shows the that the demand is there. Unfortunately, since Mattel is handing over this line to Super 7 next year, there is nothing fans can do but wait to see what happens. As announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Super 7 will continue Masters of the Universe Classics, and they hope to do ThunderCats if they can obtain the license to do so. The figures will be offered in a subscription, and that the Four Horsemen will continue to sculpt each figure, because lets face it, there is no way you can offer this line without the Four Horsemen’s artistic talents.
We will update once we know more. We’ve been trying to obtain more information, but Mattel and Super 7 are still working out the details, and have not gotten back to us at this time.
Availability: August 2016
Beast Man is based on his Filmation appearance as he appeared in the classic 1980’s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series. While the previous Beast Man figure offered in 2009 was based on the vintage toy, Club Grayskull figures focus on the animated look. Beast Man uses the body of He-Man and Skeletor, and includes a newly tooled head, chest harness, bicep straps, boots, and a whip and shield. Recreating a figure based on just his animated appearance is no easy task, but just like He-Man, Skeletor, Trap Jaw, and Evil Seed, Beast Man meets the nostalgia perfectly and gives fans another chance to own the character in Masters of the Universe Classics style.
The whip is made out of hard plastic and cannot be bent. In his right hand, it is prone to falling out easily, but his left hand has a better grip. This would vary by figure so you will have to take a look at yours. The shield is very nicely done and matches the Filmation series very well.
Overall:
This is another great entry into the Masters of the Universe Club Grayskull line-up by Mattel. Beast Man is a perfect representation of his Filmation series of the 1980’s. With Beast Man selling out in 5 minutes, things are definitely looking up for Club Filmation and we hope that Super 7 and Mattel continues this style for years to come.
Highly Recommended.
