Diamond Select Toys Ghostbusters Select series 3 action figures including Quittin’ Time Ray Stanz (dirty), Janine Melnitz, and the first ghost of the line Slimer with three interchangeable heads. This wave also includes parts of the rooftop diorama that is exclusively available through Diamond at local comic shops and some online retailers (listed below). The Toys “R” Us assortment will not include the rooftop pieces. There are just two assortments left from DST that are required to build the rooftop diorama, which by this time next year fans will have a complete set of figures based on the 1984 film.
Thank you to Diamond Select Toys for providing their Ghostbusters Select Series 3 – Quittin’ Time Ray, Janine and Slimer figures for review.
Availability: September 2016
Quittin’ Time Ray is a variant of the previous figure, and repainted to look like he’s been rolling around in the dirt. The torso is also newly sculpted and his shirt looks wrinkled and opened revealing his black shirt underneath. The figure looks similar to what has come before, and this is actually the first time anyone has come out with a dirty version of Ray. Ray includes a proton stream, Ecto-goggles, five sets of interchangeable hands (3) and gloves (2), walkie talky, and two connectors for the proton steam to fit on the Neutrino Wand (one of the connectors is for another Ghostbusters figure that came with an earlier wave, as earlier waves did not come with the connectors).
Janine Melnitz makes her 7″ action figure debut and is one of the most high-requested characters to be put in any Ghostbusters toy line. Janine is sculpted in her red, black, and grey 80’s style outfit with red glasses, and black high heels. Her ankle articulation and the way that her feet were sculpted makes it a little tricky to get her to stand up straight by herself. As far as likeness goes, it is pretty good and this is definitely one figure to own considering that for whatever reason, other companies including Mattel never offered her in their Ghostbusters line. Janine includes an open and unopened chinese food takeout, a phone, an extra set of hands, and a red buzzer as seen on her desk. Het skirt also blocks some of the articulation in her legs, which creates the posing to be limited.
Slimer is the first ghost offered in the line and is another fan-requested character. Slimer includes a highly articulated figure stand with multiple points. The stand connects to a peg hole on Slimer’s upper back. Slimer himself is sculpted with great detail and the likeness is uncanny. Slimer includes three head sculpts, which includes a standard head sculpt from Ghostbusters 1, a Ghostbusters 1 head sculpt featuring a mouthful of Hot Dogs, and a standard Ghostbusters 2 head sculpt. The two Slimer head sculpts from Ghostbusters 1 and 2 look very similar to each other, except that the heads are shaped a little differently.
Who ya Gonna Call? Ghostbusters! Diamond Select Toys latest Ghostbusters Select wave is one of the best yet with the highly anticipated release of both Janine and Slimer. The figures in this assortment came out great and with two more waves coming, the rooftop diorama is coming along nicely. The pieces included in this wave connect to the larger base very nicely and you have the top right side of the diorama completed, with only the upper left of it in your hands now.
Fans of the Ghostbusters 1984 film and franchise are going to love these figures!
