ToyHypeUSA Presents Our Top 10 Favorite Building Toys For 2016

ToyHypeUSA is proud to present our Top 10 choices for Building Toys for 2016. This includes products from both LEGO and Mega Bloks.

Mega Bloks Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Technodrome Playset

Since Mattel’s New York ToyFair 2016 press event that they announced that Mega Bloks will be offering the Technodrome this year, we were very impressed with how big it is and all of the features it was given. For a building toy like this, a 5″ scale one won’t be possible for all of these features, so Mega Bloks was able to offer something special this year that no one else is doing. That is the definitive version of the Technodrome in all of its glory. The Technodrome is exclusively at Toys “R” Us Stores, and comes with a exclusive Master Splinter, Leonardo, Mousers Kraang, and a Foot Soldier. At the price point, they probably should have included a few more mini figures like a Rock Soldier and Baxter Stockman (fly version). But when you can make a Technodrome that looks like this, the good out weighs anything it may be missing.

LEGO Star Wars Rebels – Rebel Combat Frigate

The LEGO Star Wars Rebels line is a personal favorite of ours and one of the best options this year is the Rebel Combat Frigate with an Ahsoka Tano mini-figure. Not only is it a huge spaceship, but also opens up to become a command center to play out scenes from the show.

You can purchase this set on LEGO Shop and enjoy free U.S. shipping.

LEGO Star Wars Assault On Hoth 75098

LEGO Star Wars Assault On Hoth 75098 Set

One of the most exciting and impressive Star War sets of the year at LEGO’s New York ToyFair 2016 showroom was the Assault On Hoth 75098 Set. Not only was the set impressive, but the amount of pieces and mini figures included stood out the most out of all the other sets in the showroom. Displaying this will be tricky, and it will take a diorama to really pull this off and bring scenes from the film to life in LEGO style.

LEGO Batman Classic TV Series – Batcave 2

LEGO Batman Classic 1966 Batcave

This year, LEGO expanded their DC property with sets based on the 1966 Classic Batman series staring Adam West. The set includes pieces such as the Batmobile, Batcopter, Batcycle, and all of the pieces and mini figures you see here. What was missing from the set was the 1966 Mr. Freeze mini figure, that was given to press that had attended the showroom at New York ToyFair 2016. LEGO Shop did offer Mr. Freeze free with purchase a few months later on, but that was for a limited time and not everyone that wanted it got it, such as our very own Batman Marc. This set is definitely worth the price and will be one of the greatest LEGO Batman play sets of all time.

LEGO Star Wars 75157 Captain Rex’s AT-TE

As we mentioned above, the LEGO Star Wars Rebels offerings this year far exceed any of the movie product in our opinion. This set features the return of Captain Rex, Commander Gregor and Commander Wolffe, three Clone Wars soldiers that fought alongside the Jedi that were able to get their chips removed before Order 66. This AT-TE was their home until they met Kanan and Ezra, which brought the Empire down on them.

This set can be ordered now on Entertainment Earth, which is currently offering buy 1, get 1 30% off on all LEGO products.

Mega Bloks Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Classic Collection Party Wagon

Mega Bloks Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Party Wagon

The Technodrome was not the only vehicle that Mega Bloks introduced into their Retro TMNT line-up as the Party Wagon was also introduced this year. What is even better is that they introduced the Party Wagon to the 2012 TMNT toyline as well, giving fans two Party Wagons in one year. While the 2012 and Out of the Shadows toy lines are great, our personal preference are the Classic animated Turtles. This set includes an exclusive April O’Neil, Shredder, and Michelangelo.

Mega Bloks Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Kevin Eastman Sets

At San Diego Comic-Con, Mega Bloks offered two sets along with four individual TMNT sets of the mini figures that fans were able to purchase at the show as well at Toys “R’ Us Stores after. The sets are based on the classic Kevin Eastman TMNT comic books from the 1980’s, which started it all.

At New York Comic-Con 2015, Mega Bloks surprised fans with construction sets based on Star Trek: The Original Series and offered several different sets this year including the Bridge and the Transporter Room. These sets are incredible, and fans and collectors have been able to recreate iconic scenes from the show using these show-accurate looking construction sets.

You can purchase this set now on Entertainment Earth.

LEGO Star Wars 75147 StarScavenger

LEGO didn’t just offer Star Wars Rebels set, but they also launched a new Star Wars animated series themselves called LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures. The above set focuses on the heroes from the show including a force sensitive kid named Rowan. If you have not watched the show, you should. As Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader return in the series and it’s an entertaining show.

LEGO Star Wars 75150 Vader’s TIE Advanced vs. A-Wing Starfighter

Star Wars Rebels sets were great additions to the LEGO line and this one includes Darth Vader, a variant of Sabine, Sabine’s Starfighter, Vaders TIE, Grand Moff Tarkin, and a A-Wing Pilot. This set brings characters like Tarkin into Rebels, which is definitely a plus.
