ZICA Toys – Sectaurs Warriors Of Symbion 4″ Figures Review

In Spring of 1985, Coleco introduced a new line of action figures to the market that already had some popular brands like G.I. Joe, Masters of the Universe, Transformers and ThunderCats, this new brand introduced of characters with bug-like appearances were available in stores. Sectaurs had a very shot life-span in stores at the time due to the fact because of the intimidating appearances of even the heroes and their companion beasts, and partially due to price points well above other action figure lines in stores at the same time.

However, this brand was introduced during a time when many people collecting these new figures from ZICA Toys were a child growing up in the 80’s, and have some fond memories of this brand even though they were only available in stores for a very brief time, and the fact that it saw a 5 episode series. The 80’s was a changing time for the toy industry and many new brands were introduced that have a lot of nostalgic for people today, which is why we’re particularly seeing a return of some of these brands today and some companies are offering homages to what was offered in the 80’s. ZICA Toys has brought back six new characters in the Spectaurs Warriors Of Symbion for the first-time since 1985, and after their successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2018, they are now offering these iconic characters in the 4″ figure scale, and these figures have some of the best quality we’ve seen and these are above and beyond expectations.

This initial first wave includes Dargon, Mantor, Zak, General Spidrax, Royal Guard and Skull Soldier.

Availability: March 2020

Each figure is packaged on a blister card with some retro inspired artwork and an image of the character on the front, and images of the figures and a description of this line on the back.

The quality of the figures is truly something special and of a higher grade than you normally see in the 4″ or another scale. The figures are made of a special type of high grade plastic and there is some weight to each of the figures, which was also a nice surprise as you also normally don’t see this.

Dargon is the Prince of the Shining Realm and comes in his metallic blue armored torso, boots gauntlets and hands, with black arms, legs and a red stripe on the front of the pants. Around his waist are two holsters to hold his twin venguns, but this figure only came with one of them, as this is likely a factory issue. His head sculpt looks great with the bug-eyes and nicely done facial details, including the antenna’s on his forehead. Included are 5 sets of hands, his  broadskall sword, shield, twin venguns, and a slazor. The shield on him, and every shield offered with these figures has a strap that connects to two pegs on the back of the shield.

Zak is the Captain of Prosperon’s Royal Guard, and also comes in a metallic blue torso armor, with a strap around his chest that is connected to his belt, and the belt has the holster for the vengun. His arms, gauntlets, and legs are in black, with his boots also in black, and there is a red stripe on the front of his pants. His head sculpt is helmeted with a metallic blue helmet, with the antenna’s on his forehead, bug eyes and nicely done facial details. Included with Zak is 5 sets of hands, a slazor, a vengun, and a skall shield. The slazar has a strap that connects to both ends and he can hold it around his should and across his chest, with the slazor on his back.

Mantor is a “Keeper of the Way,” a scholar of the ancient powers contained in the Hyves and the Ancients who created them. The figure also comes in a metallic blue armor, white arms, black gauntlets and gloves, black boots, and white pants. His head sculpt has the antenna on his forehead, black hair, a black beard and mustache, and bug eyes. There is also a strap around his torso that is connected to the belt, with two holders for the vengun and arrows. The straps on his back can also hold the crossbow. Included are 5 sets of hands, a crossbow, vengun, arrows and skall shield.

General Spiderax is the leader of the Dark Domain’s armies, and the character has the appearance to match his namesake. The figure is in a metallic armor, including his torso, most of his legs, gauntlets, hands, feet and helmet. His arms and the top part of his legs  are in black, and he has straps across his torso that are connected to his belt that also has the holsters for the venguns. The head sculpts are nicely done, with one having an open mouth, and the other one being closed. The facial details are nicely done, including the bug eyes. The helmet includes horns on either side and nicely sculpted details. Included are 5 sets of hands, a venom whip, slazor, skall shield, and twin venguns.

The Royal Guard was not part of the original toyline in 1985, and the figure comes in a metallic red torso armor, red arms and legs, metallic gold gauntlets and hands, red boots and shins, and a metallic gold helmet. The figure has a belt around his waist with holsters for both of the venguns. His head sculpt includes the antenna on the helmet, and nicely done facial details including the bug eyes. Included are 5 sets of hands, broadskall sword, shield, venguns, and a slazor.

The Skull Solider was also not part of the 1985 line, and is part of the Dark Domain’s armies. The figure has a metallic blue torso, gauntlets, hands, helmet, shins and boots. The arms and and legs are in purple, and he has straps around his chest and back that are connected to the belt, with the holders for the venguns. Both of his head sculpts are similar, with the exception of the closed mouth with straight horns, and the open mouth with bent horns. The facial details look great and he has bug eyes that are in red. Included is are 5 sets of hands, a spear, skall shield, and twin venguns, and a slazor.

Each figure shares the same articulation, including a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed waist, ball jointed hips, double-hinged knees, hinged and swivel ankles.

There is also some flaking on the hands when you swap them out, so be weary of that. The horns on General Spiderax and the Skull Soldier are sharp, and not dull.

Overall, Sectaurs is a hit among fans and collectors, and even though that wasn’t necessarily the case in 1985, that is definitely so today. The figure have some great detail and a high-end look and material being used here that everyone will love. Make sure to do you part and support these figures so we can get more of them.
