Hasbro Marvel Legends X-Men Series 2 Dazzler Figure Review

Hasbro’s second wave of their popular Marvel Legends series is available now and introduces Warlock to the line as a build-a-figure. This new wave includes Cyclops, Colossus, Sunfire, Dazzler, Polaris, Logan, and Shatterstar, with each figure (excluding Logan) including a piece to build Warlock.

Alison Blaire is a mutant whose superhuman powers first manifested themselves in her late adolescence. As an aspiring singer, Blaire was performing at a high school dance when her ability to transform sound into light first surfaced. Upon graduation she set out to make a name for herself in the entertainment world using her light powers to create spectacular effects as she sang. She used the stage name The Dazzler. Virtually no one knew that Blaire was a mutant; almost everyone in her audiences assumed that her lighting effects were created through technological means. Although Blaire had no intention of using her special powers to fight crime on a regular basis, time and again she found herself using them to thwart the criminal activities of gangsters and renegade superhumans.

Dazzler is based on her 1980’s and 90’s appearance in Marvel Comics. She stands at roughly 6-1/2″ tall and is sculpted in a thin, lean body type that looks to be completely newly sculpted and a lot of detail went into here to bring out the characters likeness. Dazzler has had a long running connection to the X-Men since her debut in 1980, and is a character that isn’t a core member of the team, but still nice to own to complete the team.

Dazzler is painted in her classic white shirt and white disco pants, with silver roller blades and blue wheels that do not rotate. The outfit is what she wore in the 1980’s and 90’s, and was a popular outfit in the 80’s. The top of the shirt has some great detail including the collar that goes around her neck and off the sides of her chest. There is a removable necklace with a disco ball at the bottom. The head sculpt features a great likeness, with curls that are sculpted away from the side of her face and body, and is nicely detailed to the characters likeness. Painted on her face is blue deco around her eyes, which are painted in silver with black eye liner, and metallic purple lipstick. The earrings are painted in silver, and are sculpted to the hair as well as appear to be touching the ears as well.

Dazzler includes a microphone that is painted in dark grey with a black wash, and a magic/energy effect that is painted in metallic pink, yellow, green, blue and purple. This magic effect piece has been seen many times already on other figures. She also includes an arm to build Warlock.

She is also nicely articulated to create some dynamic poses, including a ball jointed neck, ball jointed shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed chest, ball jointed hips with limited range of motion, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, and swivel-hinged ankles/roller blades.

Dazzler is a great choice and long overdue for the Marvel Legends 17 year run as neither Toybiz or Hasbro have gotten to this character. She has been an iconic and recognizable character since 1980 to readers, so it’s really about time she was brought into the Marvel Legends line-up. While not a strong candidate and not one of our personal favorite characters, it’s still nice to bolster out the ranks of the Marvel Universe with characters you won’t otherwise see too often in toy form.

Overall, Dazzler features a great sculpt, and the likeness to the comics is really good.
