Playmates Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Vigilante Casey Jones Figure Review

Playmates Toys is offering one more new Casey Jones figure before the end of the line this year. This is a repaint of the 2014 Casey Jones figure, and part of Playmates Toys2017  line-up of older figures with some new updated deco.

Back at New York ToyFair 2017, Playmates Toys announced several new deco figures based on older releases such as Mutagen Man, Splinter, Leatherhead, Baxter Stockman, Casey Jones, April O’Neil, Bebop and Rocksteady, as well as some new figures that include brand new sculpts.

Besides what was shown at ToyFair, there are no additional figures coming out this year based on the current show, as they are currently working on the new series toyline for next year. Official announcements on that have yet to be announced.

Thank you to Playmates Toys for providing their Vigilante Casey Jones figure for review.

Availability: May 2017

Casey Jones is among a handful Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from years past to be offering in new deco as the line wraps up this year. The figure is painted in a black shirt and hoot, with a grey chest harness in front (the back of the harness of left unpainted in black), dark borne pants, silver knee pads and shoulder guard with spikes, a bright metallic light brown glove, light grey shield, and there are white lines on the roller blade. The concept of the silver and black deco looks to pay homage from his space suit in the turtles in space storyline from the current series, which was an all black suit with some silver and other deco. The new repaint actually stands out better than the 2014 release, and the silver deco brings out the detail in the sculpt of the knee pads and shoulder guard. The head sculpt and mask, and while the face paint remains the same, the mask is painted in beige and black as opposed to white and black. The accessories are also painted beige as opposed to being white, as is the holster on the back.

The articulation of the figure is the same as the 2014 release, with a swivel neck, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, swivel tail, swivel-hinged hips, and swivel-hinged knees. The base ball bat and hockey stick fit into his hands nicely and you can create some dynamic poses as seen in the show.

The deco isn’t show inspired, and is something that Playmates Toys is offering just to keep product fresh while they are working on the new series beginning on 2018. Despite the fact that there is no retooling or new accessories offered, the new deco stands out better than the show-accurate figure released in 2014, as he was mostly in black, dark grey and light brown. Other characters like SplinterBaxter Fly, April O’Neil and Mutagen Man are also given new deco that we’ll be covering just as soon as we can obtain those figures, as they are also refreshed just to keep new product on store shelves, as opposed to being inspired by the show.

Overall, this new Casey Jones figure is a great repaint, and we prefer this one over the show-accurate release.
