Playmates Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tech Donnie & Ninja Strike Donnie Figures Review

Playmates Toys are offering additional repaints this year of many older Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures from the very first wave of the back from 2012, as well as somewhat newer molds in recent years. Tech Donnie and Hothead Raph include updated deco, and Ninja Strike Donnie is a new figure released this year as part of one of the last waves of the current series being offered.

This year, Playmates Toys are offering older figures with updated deco to keep product fresh as they are working on the 2018 product that is based on the new upcoming series. Look for more news and reviews of these figures as it happens, and make sure to check back soon for our review of the new TMNT WWE 6″ Crossover figures being released next month.

Thank you to Playmates Toys for providing their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tech Donnie & Ninja Strike Donnie Figures for review.

Availability: April 2017

Ninja Strike Donnie is part of this years new Ninja Strike offerings and he joins the previously released Michelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael figures. Donatello is newly tooled and has two features that allow his arms to swing when the button is pushed on his back. The left button controls the left arm, and the right button controls… well, it should be self explanatory. The action gimmick works on the shoulders, and the elbows and hinged, and the wrist can swivel. The figure includes a purple chest strap with belt attached, as well as yellow shorts with purple stripes at the sides, with brown elbow and knee pads. The hands and wrists are gloved with purple deco, with the fingers showing through. The head sculpt a bit on the basic side, and there it’s not really show accurate, just something that the designers cooked up as part of this years wrap-up of the line. The head includes a purple bandana covering the eyes and goes all the way around to the back. The staff can be stored on his back (which was not an option for Leonardo or Mikey, as shown above), and works well in his hands with the action gimmick. The hips and knees are on a swivel-hinged joint.

Tech Donnie is a new name for the character, which goes nicely with the new purple deco on the figure that has not been seen before. What is new to the figure is the shade of purpleon his bandana, elbow, belt and knee pads. The purple has a brighter tone compared to the last release with the eye balls, which was last years offering. In addition to the new purple deco, the bandages on his feet and wrists are in a darker brown compared to what has come before. The shade of green is the same such as the skin, and there are no changes to the sculpt itself. Included with Donatello is two throwing discs, a staff with blade, a staff broken up into three parts, and a regular staff.

Overall, these are nice looking repaints and we look forward to what Playmates Toys has in store this year for fans. While some are repaints, there will be some new offerings this year as announced back at New York ToyFair. Look for these figures to be hitting stores now, and check back for more reviews and coverage.
