Playmates Toys released the second wave of their very popular Ben 10 action figure line. The second wave includes Overflow, Upgrade, Wildvine, Stinkfly, and Dr. Animo. These figures are based on the new series airing on Cartoon Network, and we are finding that obtaining these figures in stores has proven to be quite challenging. For those of you unable to obtain these, Amazon.com has these listed as in-stock, but you will be paying a few dollars more for each.
Ben Tennyson, a 10-year-old boy, discovers a magical device that can turn him into 10 different alien heroes, each with its own unique abilities. With this newfound power, Ben, Grandpa Max and cousin Gwen help others and stop evildoers – but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t cause some superpowered kid mischief once and a while.

The second wave of Ben 10 basic 5″ figures are available now at select retailers, which includes additional Aliens that Ben can morph into using the Omitrix, and one new villain as seen in the show. This wave includes Overflow, Upgrade, Wildvine, Stinkfly, and Dr. Animo.
Overflow has the ability to breath underwater, shoot high powered aqua blasts and boasts heavy armor to defeat his enemies. He can also propel himself high into the air and even transform his water jets into blades to cut his enemies down to size. He is one of the 10 Aliens that Ben can morph into, which you can tell by the black and white logo on his chest. Overflow has a bulky figure sculpt as seen with Cannonbolt, and features attachable water blasters that are made with translucent blue plastic. The figure includes an underwater breathing tubes, that are made of blue translucent plastic to indicate water as the character can breath on land. This includes a small tank in the back, with grey tubes around his chest and back. On top of his head, there are additional blue tubes on either side, with a black mask and green eyes. The sculpt is painted in red, with light and dark grey. The gloves and feet are also black, as is the lower chest area.
Overflow has a good amount of articulation, including swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel hinged elbows, swivel wrists, swivel waist, swivel hinged hips, and swivel hinged knees.
Dr. Animo is the villain in the wave, and is considered an evil genius that has master plans for world domination. He can transform earth animals into mutated monsters, such as the mutated Goatadactyl. Dr. Animo includes a backpack that is connected to the chest harness around his chest, as well as a tube that is connected to the gauntlet on his right forearm. The figure is painted in dark grey, brown, black and red, and has a green helmet. The skin tone is also a light tan. There is also silver deco on the tube and gauntlet, as well as the chin strap, and ear pieces. The eyes are covered in goggles, that are black and red lenses. The articulation includes a ball jointed neck, swivel hinged shoulders, swivel wrists, swivel waist, swivel hinged hips, and swivel hinged knees.
The Goatadactyl is a non-articulated figure, and is painted in dark and light purple, with some pink, yellow, and black deco for the eye balls. He has wings coming out of his head, yellow horns, and a tiny body with a oversized head sculpt. Included is a stand with a peg for his feet.
Stinkfly is a flying insect and is the smelliest Alien that Ben can transform into. He’s quick, agile, and can shoot streams of gross fluid that choke and blind his enemies. The sculpt is a thinnest is the group, and he has detachable wings that are made of black and orange translucent plastic. The figure is painted in several shades of light and dark blue, with the Ben 10 black and white logo on his chest, and light green eyes. He also has black antenna’s and feet. The teeth look to be a bit sharp, which are painted in the same light blue as his chest and the area around his mouth. Stinkfly includes a ball jointed head, swivel hinged shoulders, swivel hinged elbows, swivel wrists, waist rotation, swivel hinged hips, and hinged knees.
Included with Stinkfly are two pieces that are attached with suction cups, which appears to be the green fluid that he shoot out. Attached to this is a green string, and if you look at his back, there is a hook for the string to be placed on so that the figure can fly in the air.
Upgrade is a futuristic Alien that uses nanotechnology to enhance devices he comes into contact with, and can also morph into a liquid state to get himself out of any sticky situation. The figure sculpt is definitely one of the most eye appealing in the wave, and definitely has a Alien-ish appearance to him. The sculpt is made of translucent purple plastic, and is made of both light and dark purple. The head sculpt is a dome shape, and the light purple lines and circles are sculpted on, rather than painted. The finger nails also have the light purple deco, and the Ben 10 black and white logo is sculpted on his chest. His articulation includes swivel shoulders, swivel hinged elbows, and swivel hinged hips.
The drone is also made of light and dark purple translucent plastic, and is a non-articulated figure. It has a tail, wings, and a cockpit, and cannot be stored on the figure.
Wildvine is an Alien that can transform into plant matter to camouflage himself and grow powerful vines from his long limbs to swing into action or to use as weapons. The vines snap onto his back and left shoulder, and come unassembled in the packaging. The figure is painted in light and dark green deco, which looks great. The head sculpt includes a large blue eye, a mouth with shark teeth, and a vine sticking up on the top of his head. The vines that can snap on are non-articulated and the one on the shoulder looks like a mouth with teeth. His articulation includes a ball jointed neck, swivel hinged shoulders, swivel hinged elbows, ball jointed stomach, swivel hinged hips, and swivel hinged knees.
Overall, Ben 10 is a show we don’t watch, but we absolutely love the attention to detail and animated appearance that Playmates Toys offers in their figures. The Ben 10 line so far has been a great collection, and fans of the franchise will definitely want to add these figures to their collection.
