Super 7 Masters Of The Universe Classics Collector’s Choice Lodar Figure Review

The next wave of Masters of the Universe Classics figures are currently shipping from Super 7, which includes the Collector’s Choice and Club Grayskull (Filmation style) figures. For Club Grayskull, these figures include Fang-Or, Quakke, Hawke and Lodar. Club Grayskull now has Man-At-Arms, Teela, Hordak and Tri-Klops that are all available now.

Lodar is the main villain in the Masters of the Universe mini-comic Slave City. He took the city of Targa with his army of Kobolds and enslaved the population. When the Kobolds captured an amnesiac He-Man, he made him fight Garn, another prisoner, in the arena, the victor being set free. He-Man recovers his memory and wins, but he refuses to kill his competitor. Instead, he attacks Lodar and wins. The Kobolds flee at the sight of their master losing. Afterwards, Lodar and the Kobolds are banished underground, where Lodar will no longer be able to use magic without the sun and the moon, from which he draws his power.

Super 7 has done a remarkable job since taking over the line in 2017 following Mattel’s abrupt cancellation of Mattycollector that was announced during San Diego Comic-Con in 2016. With the cancellation, Super 7 didn’t have much time to put something together, and it was the Four Horsemen that came up with the idea for the Ultimate edition figures of He-Man, Skeletor, Teela, Ram Man and Faker. Following this, the Masters of the Universe Classics offerings have been spread out as opposed to a monthly offering that Mattel had been doing since 2009. Besides last years PowerCon exclusives, these are the latest offerings of Masters of the Universe Classicsfigures had offered directly to the consumer since the Ultimate Editions. We can tell you that so far we’ve received nothing but positive feedback from readers on these figures, and they great additions to the line. We are just so thankful to Super 7 for taking on this project and for continuing this line on behalf of Mattel, and we hope to see it thrive for years to come.

Lodar makes his action figure debut in the Collector’s Choice line, and features a great likeness to the mini-comic, with an updated Classics appearance so he can fit in with other characters in this line. Lodar features a removable chest piece that is made of soft plastic, that has two shoulder pauldrons with two spikes on each, and painted in a metallic purple as opposed to the dark purple used on the chest and back armor. The pauldrons also have bolts around the edges, and the body armor has bolts in various places.

The head sculpt features a great likeness, and is sculpted with a non-removable helmet, with only his eyes and eye brows, along with the part of the head around those being shown. The helmet includes five metallic purple spikes on top, and metallic purple is also used on the face plate of the helmet, along with the piece that sticks out and sculpted to the spikes and faceplate. The rest of the helmet is painted black, and feels smooth.

The torso uses the standard sculpt used for many figures over the years, and has a band over the right bicep that is painted in black with purple trim on the edges, and wrist bands painted in black with spikes painted in the same metallic purple as seen on the other spikes on the body. The belt is painted in black, with metallic purple on the edges and spikes, as well as the front of the crouch part that is designed as an upside triangle with grooves sculpted in between. The pants are painted in black, and are smooth to the touch. The bottom of the feet are cleated, and given the fact that various parts of the armor includes spikes, this works quite well. The skin color is a light purple that is shown on the chest, back, arms, and the part of the face around the eyes. The different shades of purple and black work quite well together, and also help him to stand out among other figures in this collection.

Included with Lodar his mace that is painted with a black handle, and a metallic purple ball with spikes, as well as giant chains that are made of plastic. The chains are connected to a flat disk that rests on the ground, and almost any heroic character, villain, or Lodar himself can be cuffed to these chains.

Overall, Lodar is an excellent figure with a great likeness to the character. Being collecting this line since 2009, Lodar is a character that you would think would never make it to figure form especially since it’s been 30 years since he’s been used in the mini-comics or another form of entertainment. being able to own Lodar now is truly a gift, and the Four Horsemen and Super 7 have truly done a good job on this character.
