Super 7 Masters Of The Universe Classics Filmation Man-At-Arms Figure Review

The next wave of Masters of the Universe Classics figures are currently shipping from Super 7, which includes the Collector’s Choice and Club Grayskull (Filmation style) figures. For Club Grayskull, these figures include Fang-Or, Quakke, Hawke and Lodar. Club Grayskull now has Man-At-Arms, Teela, Hordak and Tri-Klops that are all available now.

Man-At-Arms is based on his appearance as seen in the classic He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series. Man-At-Arms is an inventor, Foster Father of Teela, and one of a few characters that knows Prince Adam is He-Man. Man-At-Arms is one of King Randor’s most trusted advisers and allies, and is one of the original members of the Masters of the Universe. Duncan, or Man-At Arms as he is commonly referred too, includes several accessories as seen on the cartoon, including his iconic mace, cannon and a blast effect that connects to the armor on his wrist.

Super 7 has done a remarkable job since taking over the line in 2017 following Mattel’s abrupt cancellation of Mattycollector that was announced during San Diego Comic-Con in 2016. With the cancellation, Super 7 didn’t have much time to put something together, and it was the Four Horsemen that came up with the idea for the Ultimate edition figures of He-Man, Skeletor, Teela, Ram Man and Faker. Following this, the Masters of the Universe Classics offerings have been spread out as opposed to a monthly offering that Mattel had been doing since 2009. Besides last years PowerCon exclusives, these are the latest offerings of Masters of the Universe Classicsfigures had offered directly to the consumer since the Ultimate Editions. We can tell you that so far we’ve received nothing but positive feedback from readers on these figures, and they great additions to the line. We are just so thankful to Super 7 for taking on this project and for continuing this line on behalf of Mattel, and we hope to see it thrive for years to come.

Man-At-Arms is based on his appearance in the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series of the 1980’s, and joins the Filmation series that Mattel started. Duncan is sculpted in his orange armor, which has less detail in the armor than the toy version to make it easier to draw for the animated series (which is a great tidbit of information we’ve recently acquired). The armor covers his chest, back, and parts of the arms and lower legs. The armor on his chest and back is made of soft plastic, and is removable. The armor on his arms are made as separate pieces and attached to the shoulders, biceps and forearms, allowing him to use the articulation in the arms.

His head sculpt has a great likeness to his appearance in the animated series, and he includes his grey helmet that is shaped like a dome, with orange detail on top. The facial details are nicely done and the Four Horsemen continue to do incredible work on the detail to the sculpts (don’t worry, we’ll be talking about the mistakes made with Teela shortly), and every aspect about the facial details look great. He has his mustache, that is painted in a dark brown, eye brows painted in black, and an overall great likeness. The piece of armor sticking up covers the chin, and has a great resemblance to the series.

Man-At-Arms is covered in a dark green suit, which covers his entire body and underneath the armor. The grey belt is sculpted around his waist, and the lion cloth is painted in a dark brown, which also matches his shoes.

Man-At-Arms includes his mace, which is sculpted with a simplistic design as opposed to all the details than what was offered with the toy, a cannon that can be held in both hands and includes a screen for him to look at, and a blast effect that connects to either of the armor on his wrists. The blast effect is made of yellow translucent plastic, and holds in well with the holes sculpted in the armor.

Overall, Man-At-Arms features a great likeness to his Filmation appearance as seen in the animated series, and joins other characters include He-Man, Skeletor, Beast Man, Tri-Klops, Teela and others released so far. Fans of the original cartoon will not want to miss out on this one.
