Super 7 Masters Of The Universe Classics Filmation Tri-Klops Figure Review

The next wave of Masters of the Universe Classics figures are currently shipping from Super 7, which includes the Collector’s Choice and Club Grayskull (Filmation style) figures. For Club Grayskull, these figures include Fang-Or, Quakke, Hawke and Lodar. Club Grayskull now has Man-At-Arms, Teela, Hordak and Tri-Klops that are all available now.

Tri-Klops is based on his appearance as seen in the classic He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series from the 1980’s. Tri-Klops serves the evil Skeletor, a skilled hunter and swordsman, and a handy spy. His visor features three eyes that gives him different abilities – night vision, Distavision (allowing him to see great distances), and and the third eye various by several sources. It’s been stated the this third eye allows him to see through solid objects, and sometimes allows him to see around the corner. Each be also has a different optic blast. The character was originally supposed to be a near match for He-Man to fight on Skeletor’s side, which was stated in the mini-comic story line “The Terror of Tri-Klops!.”

Super 7 has done a remarkable job since taking over the line in 2017 following Mattel’s abrupt cancellation of Mattycollector that was announced during San Diego Comic-Con in 2016. With the cancellation, Super 7 didn’t have much time to put something together, and it was the Four Horsemen that came up with the idea for the Ultimate edition figures of He-Man, Skeletor, Teela, Ram Man and Faker. Following this, the Masters of the Universe Classics offerings have been spread out as opposed to a monthly offering that Mattel had been doing since 2009. Besides last years PowerCon exclusives, these are the latest offerings of Masters of the Universe Classicsfigures had offered directly to the consumer since the Ultimate Editions. We can tell you that so far we’ve received nothing but positive feedback from readers on these figures, and they great additions to the line. We are just so thankful to Super 7 for taking on this project and for continuing this line on behalf of Mattel, and we hope to see it thrive for years to come.

Tri-Klops is based on his appearance as seen in the 1980’s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series, and joins the Filmation series that Mattel started. Try-Klops is sculpted in his green armor that is removable and made of soft plastic, green visor with all three eye balls, orange belt, orange bands on the wrists, dark red lion cloth and boots. The particular shade of green used on the armor and visor has been controversial amongst fans, as this light shade of green did appear in the Filmation series, but the character is better remembered as having a darker shade of green that the original toy had as well as the 2009 release of Tri-Klops in the Masters of the Universe Classics line.

The darker shade of green also appeared in the Filmation series. Super 7 did also showcase the figure with the darker green as seen in the image above on one of their official product images, and have stated that they could revisit Tri-Klops in the darker green. This would require fans for spend another $35 on a figure that they already own, just to have the armor in the dark green that they are asking for. Interestingly enough, the original statement also suggests that Tri-Klops was supposed to have the rotating visor, as stated HERE. It’s just a shame that this didn’t happen.

In addition the dark green/light green complaint, the other common complaint with the figure is that the visor does not turn, as seen in the Filmation series and vintage toy. This visor is sculpted to the head with all three eye balls looking the same so it’s impossible to tell which eye does what power/ability as stated in the second paragraph in the introduction to this review.

The head sculpt has a great likeness to his appearance in the Filmation series, and has great facial details including the mouth, nose, hair and the shape of the visor. On this particular figure there is some bleeding from the visor, and the left side of his face has some green deco, which is just disappointing.

The body also has a great likeness, including the sculpt and deco on the figure. Keep in mind that both the light and dark green did appear in the Filmation series as proven by Brian Flynn, owner of Super 7. The figure is accurate, but not as remembered as the darker green. The sculpt has the same chest, arms and legs as He-Man and Skeletor, as these parts are commonly shared among these characters going back from the original toy line, and the flesh tone has a darker tan to it.

Tri-Klops includes his sword and gun as seen in the Filmation series. Tri-Klops is known as a skilled swordsman, so it was imperative that he had his Filmation sword in this release, and this accessory features a great likeness. The sword has a gold handle, with a silver blade. The gun is painted in light grey.

It’s been 9 years since Tri-Klops has been offered in this line, as he was offered as an update to the vintage toy in 2009, which had a very limited production run and did not have as many collectors earlier on as the line has now. Tri-Klops also never saw a re-issue, leaving many without the character altogether. Thankfully, he is available once again in his Filmation likeness, and for those of you that never purchased the first Tri-Klops figure, can own this updated one.

Overall, Tri-Klops features a great likeness to his Filmation appearance as seen in the animated series, and joins other characters include He-Man, Skeletor, Beast Man, Man-At-Arms, Teela and others released so far. Fans of the original cartoon will not want to miss out on this one.
