Mattel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Dinosaur & Figure Collection Review

Mattel’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom line continues to offer such great product as fans have been digging in and buying all these up. This collection of dinosaur figures, trucks, 3 3/4″ figures and many other collectibles based on the new film. Mattel’s Jurassic World/Jurassic Park team has been working extremely hard on this brand to give fans something unique and special that no one else has been able to do, such as 3 3/4″ Legacy figures based on the very first Jurassic Park movie from 1993. This entire line has been an incredible offering even that spectacular Colossal T-Rex that has fans going crazy for it.

If you haven’t done so already, take a look at our review of the Gyropphere Blast Vehicle from earlier this week. This vehicle can hold one 3 3/4″ figure, as well as places to store additional figures and even dinosaurs.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the latest installment of the franchise, and takes place after the events of the previous film. After the demise of the Jurassic World theme park on Isla Nublar, the dinosaurs roam freely on the island for four years until an impending volcanic eruption threatens to destroy the island and the dinosaurs. Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), the former park manager, has now founded the Dinosaur Protection Group, an organization dedicated to saving the dinosaurs. Claire teams up with Benjamin Lockwood (James Cromwell), the former partner of John Hammond, to launch a dinosaur rescue mission and bring the creatures to a sanctuary that Lockwood has created in America. Claire also convinces Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), a former dinosaur trainer who worked at the park and her former boyfriend, to join her mission so he can locate Blue, the last remaining of the four Velociraptors that he trained. After Isla Nublar is destroyed by the volcano, the dinosaurs are brought to Lockwood’s large estate, located in America. At the estate, Owen and Claire realize that the dinosaurs are being auctioned rather than saved. A hybrid dinosaur known as the Indoraptor escapes and terrorizes people at the estate.

Thank you to Mattel for providing everything shown in the gallery for review, including their Gyropphere Blast Vehicle.

This new Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom line that Mattel is offering is by far the best dinosaur figures we’ve ever seen, and we are especially craving these even over everything else that has come before. This line doesn’t only offer dinosaurs as seen in the film, but figures from multiple film including Jurassic Park (1993), as part of the Legacy Collection, and Jurassic World.

The Carnotaurus stands at roughly 15″ long and 9″ tall, and features a chopping action by pressing down on the button on his back, a and ball jointed tail. The dinosaur is sculpted with various textures giving the skin a realistic look and feel, as well as very nicely detailed paint applications of brown, an off white on the chest, and lower part of the body, and black deco on his back and down the sides of the legs. Both hips can swivel, and the arms are hinged-swivel jointed. The chopping action on the mouth lowers the neck and opens the mouth at the same time, then the mouth snaps shut as if he’s bitting or grabbing food.

The Stegosaurus measures over 14″ long and slightly over 7″ tall, and features a tail-striking action that is activated by pressing down on one of the fins on his back. The dinosaur includes some great sculpted texture on his skin that makes it look and feel realistic, as well as a colorful green skin make up of several shades of light green, and mostly dark green on the top. The neck is ball jointed, and the legs can swivel. The fins are made of a soft plastic allowing you to bend them.

Some of the smaller dinosaurs offered in the collection are shown above, which includes Velociraptor “Blue”, Velociraptor, Gallimimus, Dilophosaurus, Dimorphodon, and a rip-run Velociraptor “Blue” that is supposed to be connected to Owen on a motorcycle.

All of the dinosaur’s have sculpted textures on their skin and nice looking pant applications unique to the species. Blue has the stripes on the sides, and we especially like the red and white deco on the Dilophosaurus’s spitting action.

Blue has a hinged jaw, soft plastic arms that bend, swivel hips, a soft plastic tail and a nicely painted tongue and teeth, as well as raptor eyes. The green Velociraptor is sculpted as if he’s about to jump and attach his prey, as both legs are sculpted low to the ground, and while they can swivel at the hips, getting him to stand any other way is not an option. Like blue, he shares the same articulation and made in a similar way, with the exception of his legs and skin color. The Gallimimus is painted in a light beige and a dark brown on his back, and includes a hinged neck, hinged hips, hinged arms that are also made of soft plastic, and a soft plastic tail. The deco on his chest is painted in a different color that stands out by itself, and the head sculpt especially the details on the eyes and mouth came out great. The Dilophosaurus is mostly remembered as eating Newman on Seinfeld in Jurassic Park, and this figure has a great likeness to the screen version. The sides of the head can swivel open and closed as if he’s spitting, and he has an acid attachment piece that can be placed inside his mouth. The skin is painted in a light green, stripes on his tail, and dark dots on the skin. The hips and arms can swivel, and the tail is made of a soft plastic. The Dimorphodon is the flying dinosaur, and is mostly painted in a dark grey with brown deco under his wings. The mouth is nicely sculpted and detailed, and we especially like how this one came out. The teeth are individually sculpted, and the eyes are nicely done and painted. His articulation includes swivel-hinged wings, a hinged neck, hinged jaw, hinged hips, and a tail made of soft plastic.

The rip-run Velociraptor “Blue” is supposed to be connected to Owen on a motorcycle, as both sets plug into each other. Blue has a rip cord action that allows him to race across the floor as if he was running. The body is sculpted to the black piece with he wheel underneath that make it look like he’s running as his legs move when the wheel does. The figure itself has some articulation, including swivel arms.

Owen comes with two variations of the 3 3/4″ scale, including his dinosaur training outfit, and one with removable armor. The dinosaur training outfit includes a beige shirt, brown vest, a dark brown belt, dark blue pants, dark brown shoes, a bag with a strap that can fit around his chest, and he also has a knife that plugs into the back of his belt. He includes a baby version of Blue, which cannot stand on his own as the legs and arms are made of soft plastic. There is a also a watch on his right wrist, and the facial details have a good likeness to Chris Pratt. The other figure shares most of the same parts, including the legs, arms as well as the head, and each have a unique torso. This version has a dark blue shirt, brown belt, blue pants, brown boots, and comes with removable armor on his forearms, torso, as well as a shield. The shield is made of clear blue plastic with the JP logo on it, and while their are two handles, he can only hold one at a time.

Overall, Mattel’s new Jurassic World line is out of this world, and we especially love the diversity of the collection as well as all of the details of each figure. Fans of the franchise will surely want to add these figures and dinosaurs to their collections.
