The Vintage Collection has seen many great figures during its original run, which included mostly film, comic, and animated inspired characters that were offered in this style. After the news that this line was coming back, fans have rejoiced, and Hasbro has so far only offered film accurate figures rather than a mix of everything as previously offered. This 3-pack changes that, and is the first comic inspired set offered since 2012. These figures are based on the current Darth Vader comic book series, and includes Doctor Aphra, BT-1, and 0-0-0.
Doctor Aphra is painted and sculpted as seen in the Darth Vader comic book, and she comes in her orange vest, light grey shirt, dark grey pants and an even darker grey boots. The pants have a light beige pattern/rectangles going down the sides, and the top of the boots have two brown straps around them. There is also a belt harness around her waist with a holster for her blaster, and this is painted in light brown, with a silver belt buckle. Her hands are covered in gloves that are painted in a dark grey, and a red square on the back of the hand. Going down her right arm are dark grey tattoos that are comprised of lines and circles. Her head sculpt is nicely done with detailed facial sculpting, as well as nicely painted eyes, and lips with red lipstick. Her hair is covered with a helmet, with brown and silver glasses that are sculpted to the helmet. Her articulation is what you’d expect of a figure from The Vintage Collection or super articulated Star Wars figures, such as a ball jointed neck, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel wrists, ball jointed torso, swivel-hinged hips, swivel thighs, swivel-hinged knees, and swivel-hinged ankles.
0-0-0 (Triple Zero)is a Protocol Droid, and unlike C-3PO, he’s meant as an assassin. The sculpt and detailed deco came out extremely well, and BT-1 is painted in a metallic dark silver on the body, with red eyes, and some exposed silver and black wiring on his lower back, and lower stomach. Several parts of him are removable, including the back panel on his upper back, faceplate, chest, and right thigh. The back panel reveals a compartment, and the front panels and faceplate showcases the different color wiring that are painted in silver, red and blue. His articulation includes a ball jointed neck, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel wrists, ball jointed torso, swivel-hinged hips, hinged knees, and swivel-hinged ankles.
BT-1 (Bee Tee) is an Astromech droid, and unlike R2-D2, he too is an assassin. BT-1 is painted mostly in dark grey, with some silver and red deco detailing the body. This droid has two concealed weapons that are removable and two panels are placed there in its place as if the weapons are being stored inside his body. The weapons include a laser and missile launcher. The weapons are not articulated, and are plugged into the body, with the panels connected to the weapons. BT-1 has a swivel head, swivel hips, and ankles, and the front foot is also removable. The sculpting on his is one of the most impressive in the set, especially with the weapons attached.
This set is exclusive to San Diego Comic-Con and FanExpo Canada, and will be available this week at SDCC if you are attending the show, and HasbroToyShop in August. We would like to thank Hasbro once again for providing this set for review.
Overall, Star Wars fans will not want to miss this Doctor Aphra comic set, as it includes three must own characters especially if you’ve been reading the Darth Vader comic book. Fans have a great opportunity to own this amazingly detailed set, and we also especially like the detailed deco on Triple Zero and Doctor Aphra.
