Hasbro Transformers BotBots Wave 1 Complete Collection Review

Hasbro’s new line of Transformers BotBots are miniature figures that can transform from a normal household object, food, Candy, sports equipment, electronics, school supplies, and various other objects found on Earth that can hide out and blend in as everyday objects. The first series includes 61 different mini-figures with some multiples offered in the various different packages that will be hitting stores soon. These figures are super cute and look animated just like the drawings shown on the packaging and posters included with each set. You’ve read the press release, and now take an in-hand look at what’s coming in the gallery below.

Thank you to Hasbro for sending along their upcoming Transformers BotBots Wave 1 figures for review.

Availability: December 2018/2019

The packaging that Hasbro sent over is one of the most impressive displays that we’ve seen them do, which has places for all of the single blind-bubbles and multi-packs that hold all of the wave 1 offerings. The center of the box has a drawer with a letter, poster and instructions inside. On the top, are the blind boxes that have to be cut open to see what’s inside. Hasbro sent over 1 each of the new BotBots in these blind bubbles on a cardboard, so they were able to tell what was inside, and we couldn’t as the packaging looked identical. The bottom of the box had draws that held 4 each of the multi-packs that included 8x 5 packs, and 8x 8 packs of BotBots figures. In each of these, there is a mystery BotBot located inside the red bubble just like the single carded bubbles. There are also 24 blind-bubbles.

There are a total of 8 teams, which includes the Lost Bots, Backpack Bunch, Greaser Gang, Jock Aquas, Shed Heads, Sugar Shocks, Techie Team and Toilet Troop. Each of the multi-packs includes an assortment of the teams, and you will need to buy everything, as well as all of the 24 blind-bubbles in order to own a complete collection of all the teams. The press release has a breakdown of what you can expect in the multipacks of 5 through 8 figures, which includes some duplicates and 1 per set figures. There are a total of 6-8 characters per team, and each team has their own unique logo.

This poster here gives you the breakdown of which characters are included in each of the teams, and it’s up to you to find them all. The transformations of the figure are pretty straight forward, with a few of them being harder than others as you need to grab some parts such as the arms, legs or even a piece covering the head and flip it as shown in the instructions in each of the packaged sets. Some of these parts don’t want to move with using your fingers, so you will need pliers or something else to get a good grip.

In our gallery, we wanted to put everything back in the package, because look at the display Hasbro sent over, and it was worth it for us to keep the packaging just for the sole purpose of displaying this gorgeous set. The ribbon however needed to be cut in order to open the front flaps, which was disappointing. You won’t see entire teams displayed together, and instead they’re broken down by 1-3 different sets from the packaging. The images of the poster is a great tool to use when shopping and keeping track of what you need to complete a team(s), so make sure to keep one of these handy.

The objects used as Transformers are quite unique for the franchise, especially the food, toiletries, plants, school gear, sports gear and tech that most of these have not been used before with Transformers, so this is definitely a great way to keep the franchise fresh and introduce kids and even some adults to the brand. Some of the faces don’t look robotic however, and look more animated than what some fans would be used too. The more robotic heads and faces however look more like Transformers. The plant transformers is a concept that’s been used before, and if you remember Transformers Beast Machines – Botanica, you will recall that she too was a plant, so this concept brings some new life to plant Transformers for a new generation of plans. The food however will be a tough one, which really reminds us of the classic Food Fighters toyline.

Overall, BotBots are fun to play with and collect, and we particularly like how well some of these robots are hidden in everyday objects. If these were life-size and painted in more realist colors, it would be harder to tell whats a transformer and what’s not. These figures are perfect for fans of any age (older than 3 years as the packaging suggests).
