Eaglemoss – Star Trek U.S.S. Defiant NX-74205 Starship Review

Eaglemoss Hero Collector is offering an XL edition of the U.S.S Defiant, the starship used in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and even was seen fighting the Borg cube in Star Trek: First Contact. The Defiant was commanded by Captain Benjamin Sisko in the show and during the Dominion War, and the NX-74205 registry was the original ship, before being destroyed in a battle with the Dominion.

Thank you to Eaglemoss for providing their Star Trek U.S.S. Defiant NX-74205 Starship for review.

Availability: July/August 2018

The U.S.S. Defiant XL Edition comes with a collector magazine that includes 20 pages of everything you need to know about the ship and details on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The magazine includes detailed information on a behind the scenes look of creating the Defiant, ship specifications, a behind-the-scenes look at designing the Deep Space Nine space station, the cast, Filming DS9, and an introduction on how the Defiant was introduced in the show.

The Defiant measures around 9″ in length and is made of die-cast and ABS plastic parts, and is based on the television series. The ship is a larger scale compared to the 5″ model released in 2013, and the biggest differences are the deflector and warp nacelles, which received newly-designed plastic parts. The ship is loaded with sculpted details and patterns throughout the design, which is shown on the front, back, top, bottom and around the sides. The Defiant is mostly in grey, with nicely done blue and gold, with red lines and black text. The new engine cover is also quite impressive, and has a grille pattern to it. The impulse engines however were originally seen as red in Star Trek: First Contact, and this vessel is left in light grey, but it’s a tiny detail that most people won’t notice.

The Defiant is light-weight, and the die-cast parts are mostly on the body itself with the ABS plastic on the front and warp nacelles. The forward deflector, or front of the ship is connected has a small attachment point to the die-cast body, and is connected with a set of pressure clips. Apparently, this can be reattached easily with glue if knocked off.

The bottom of the ship has a nicely detailed design, including the NX-74205 registry in black. It also has a series of windows and additional nicely done paint, that includes the red lines.

Overall, the Defiant is an excellent detailed starship with a great likeness to the original model and television series. The sculpt and attention to detail looks great and we particularly like the look and high-end look of it. Star Trek fans will surely want to add this piece to their collections.
