DC Collectibles – DC Essentials Shazam & Black Adam Figure 2-Pack Review

DC Collectibles is offering their DC Essentials Shazam and Black Adam Figure 2-Pack this week at comic shops. With the Shazam Movie coming this April, this is already a popular set. The DC Essentials line is the new flagship DC action figure offering by DC Collectibles, and replaced their DC Icons line. These figures are bigger and bulkier compared to DC Icons, and is also an upgrade to what has come before. Shazam and Black Adam are the first and only 2-pack announced in this new line, and with New York ToyFair kicking off next weekend, we’re hopeful to learn of more offerings in the Essentials line along with their Batman animated line-up. These figures are inspired by their comic book appearance, and are available starting today at your local comic shop and some online retailers.

Thank you to DC Collectibles for providing their DC Essentials Shazam and Black Adam Figure 2-Pack for review.

Availability: February 2019

Shazam and Black Adam share the same figure sculpt and are repainted in their iconic colors, and each is given an all new head sculpt. Shazam and Black Adam are based on their appearance in DC Rebirth, and features a great likeness to the comic. Shazam is painted in his bright red outfit with gold deco located around the white lightning bolt around his chest, belt, bracelets, boots, and trim around the cape, as well as white deco on his cape, which is made of a soft plastic. Black Adam shares the same deco pattern with the exception of the black deco on the suit and cape. The gold on both of the figures I metallic, which makes the figures stand out even more. There is also some sculpted details that look like lightning bolts on their belts and bracelets, which the bright gold deco helps brings out these details. Both head sculpts are unique, and both have black hair with great facial details. The biggest difference here is the eyes, as Shazam has real eye balls, and Black Adam gets white eyes.

Their articulation is also upgraded compared to most other releases we’ve seen, which includes a ball jointed neck, ab crunch, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, swivel boots, double-hinged knees, and ball jointed ankles. The figures do not come with any accessories.

Overall, Shazam and Black Adam are an excellent figures with great likenesses and an excellent sculpt and deco. Both figures fit in nicely with the rest of the DC Essentials figure offerings you may already own. Go get these right now at your local comic shop, or order them below at the stores mentioned:
