Playmobil 70037 Dragons Hiccup & Toothless With Baby Dragon Figures Review

Playmobil had unveiled their Dreamworks Dragons figures at this years New York ToyFair, which also showed off Ghostbusters and the Playmobil Movie figures. This new collection of Dreamworks Dragons includes a collection of figures and dragons as seen in the show, which takes place between How to Train Your Dragon and How to Train Your Dragon 2.

DreamWorks Dragons follows Hiccup as he tries to keep balance within the new cohabitation of Dragons and Vikings. Alongside keeping up with Berk’s newest installment—A Dragon Training Academy—Hiccup, Toothless, and the rest of the Viking Teens are put to the test when they are faced with new worlds harsher than Berk, new dragons that can’t all be trained, and new enemies who are looking for every reason to destroy the harmony between Vikings and Dragons altogether.

Thank you to Playmobil for providing their 70037 Dragons Hiccup and Toothless with Baby Dragon Figures for review.

Availability: April 2019

The Playmobil 70037 Dragons Hiccup & Toothless With Baby Dragon Figures are packaged in a box with images of the figures inside, along with artwork fro the show, including an ocean and sky on the front where the Dragons are shown flying over it. Hiccup is shown with his helmet off on the lower right hand cover, and there are some specifications such as a mention of the LED feature and what type of batteries are required. The set comes in 19 pieces that require assembly, including the wings of the dragons, and the parts for Hiccup.

Toothless features a 20″ wingspan in flight mode, as well as a LED light-up effect that is activated by pressing the button on his back. This sculpt includes sculpted textures on the skin to resemble the rough outer layer of a dragon, which is painted in black and blue deco with patterns of blue on the wings, back and tail. The head sculpt includes a hinged jaw that can fire projectiles, and includes a great likeness to the series. His tail has two different interchangeable parts on the back wing, with one being red and the other the black and blue deco. There is a removable piece on his back where the batteries can be installed, and by pressing the button, his back can light-up to create a LED effect. His articulation includes ball hinged wings, swivel legs and a hinged jaw. Toothless includes three flame projectiles.

The Baby Dragon has a similar appearance to Toothless, and is painted in a glossy off-white deco with black on his tail, back, ears and head, black and green eyes. He is given some sculpted textures on the skin, which is mostly found on his head and legs. His articulation includes swivel wings, swivel legs and a hinged jaw.

Hiccup is given the standard Playmobil figure style sculpt, and is given his black and grey armor. The black armor are sculpted parts with sculpted textures, while the grey parts of the suit are painted, which also includes a painted brown and silver belt, and red deco on his sides and the back of his right shoulder pad. His left lower leg was replaced with metal parts that allows him to walk. Some parts of the armor are removable, such as the wings, helmet, and gauntlets. Also included with Hiccup is a fire sword, and an interchangeable hair piece.

Overall, this is a nicely done set with nicely done likenesses to the characters. Both Toothless and Baby Dragon have the better of the likenesses as they are more geared towards the film, and Hiccup’s armor and interchangeable parts offers some customizable options. We particularly like how nicely done Toothless is sculpted as he is the key figure in this set. Look for these figures to his stores and online retailers next month, including many more Dragons and figures being offered.
